Did you know that diseases such as kennel cough can be more serious for those dog breeds that have pushed-in faces (such as bulldogs and boxers)? This is because the unusual head anatomy of these dogs can quickly compromise their respiratory systems and create breathing difficulties.

Ask your vet when it is best to vaccinate your new pet. The first vaccine is usually given to puppies at eight weeks and kittens at nine, with the second usually given two to four weeks later. Yearly booster vaccinations are needed because the body’s immune response gradually fades over time.

Did you know that your pet can have the same types of allergy problems that people have? If your pet is scratching, licking and itching with areas that are red and sore, we can see if allergies are responsible.

If your dog’s nails click against hard floors, they are too long. Their nails and dew claws require attention. There is a quick blood vessel that runs down the middle of your dog’s nail, which can be painful if accidently clipped, so it’s a good idea to have this done by your vet, especially for dogs with dark nails.

A healthy and happy dog needs regular boosters after its initial vaccinations. If boosters aren't scheduled regularly as a dog ages, his or her vaccinations won't do much good in protecting from disease.
