Looking to add some courses to your Spring 2021 schedule? The College offers some great Application and Information Systems (AIS) late and short-term classes to consider this upcoming semester. Late and short-term classes include Computer Survival Skills and Microsoft Suite classes. Computer Survival Skills... College of the Desert has computer classes available for newbies and everyday users, alike. The College’s AIS 005 - Computer Survival course is ideal for learners just getting familiar with computers and computer software. This course provides basic computer skills needed for personal, professional and academic success. Students will become comfortable using the Internet and other common computer applications. Computer survival is a late-starting course which begins March 1, so there is still time to enroll. Microsoft Suite Classes Learn to write documents, manage emails and create spreadsheets and presentations with the College’s AIS classes for Microsoft Office applications suite. These courses are offered in an accelerated, four-week format, allowing you to immediately apply your new skills at school, work or for personal use. Each one-unit class can take be taken individually or consecutively for learners wanting to master all the applications. The course numbers are listed below. For the second year, College of the Desert in collaboration with NASA, will be participating in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program! This opportunity is open to all students from all majors, including U.S. citizens, residents, DACA or undocumented students. The NCAS program consists of two phases:... Phase I consists of a five-week online class that will take place during January and February. This class will consist of learning about different NASA missions, Astrobiology, the International Space Station, among other topics. Phase II consists of a robotics competition, where students will build and program a rover to do different tasks. No previous experience is necessary. You will learn everything you need during the course. The dates for Phase II are still yet to be determined. NASA is looking for an array of majors beyond the traditional STEM majors, so all students are welcome to apply.
