Did you catch the launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base this morning? You probably heard the sonic boom! SpaceX launched a Sentinel-6 satellite designed to monitor the effects of climate change. This Wednesday: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there is a drive-through event providing to-go bags with hygiene items, socks, sunscreen, sunglasses, first aid kids and more provided by Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down at 511 E. Lakeside Parkway in Santa Maria. CoastHills volunteer board director Hugh Rafferty partnered with the Credit Union to direct $5,000 to help continue support for our local veterans during the COVID pandemic.... Our military veterans are in great need, especially during this time when jobs are few and needs are not easily met, Rafferty said. Thankfully, CoastHills Credit Union has empowered its board members to help direct donations to worthy local charities. I could think of nothing more important than Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down. This program primarily directed at homeless veterans provides clothing, medical exams, personal grooming items, pet care and social services for these men and women. As a Marine Corps veteran, I want to send a special thanks to Santa Barbara County 5th District Supervisor Steve Lavagnino and Veterans Stand Down Coordinator, Sandy Agalos, for creating and maintaining this much-needed program. Here's one way: Santa Maria Police Department is hosting a socially distanced drive-thru trunk or treat on Friday from 5-7:30 p.m. at the station at 111 W. Betteravia Road. Following a positive COVID-19 test of a CoastHills staff member, we have executed established health protocols, all potentially exposed employees have been tested for the virus, and all buildings have had additional cleaning and been fully disinfected.
