This week we started taking down the fence at Coal Oil Point Reserve after another successful Western Snowy Plover breeding season. 23 chicks fledged in the wil...d at the Reserve and an additional 12 orphaned chicks were captively reared and released. These photos were from one of this year's releases. . Despite the lack of fencing, the upper portion of the beach is still protected habitat for plovers and other wildlife. We ask that beach goers continue to stay out of the protected habitat, walk close to the ocean's edge and keep dogs on a leash so these beautiful birds can thrive. .
