Classical Academy Middle School

In science class this week, students had 5 minutes to draw the prototype of their own solution to how to solve the plastic pollution problem. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking and imagination to solve the problem of plastics, whether by creating a machine that cleans the ocean, finding alternatives to plastic, changing legislation, improving recycling, or simply spreading the word about the problem. Today we celebrate 2 weeks of our Badgers of the Week! Lauren showed Ownership by figuring out a way to submit a writing assignment and explaining to others how to do it as well. Kenley (not pictured) demonstrated tenacity through her engagement with rigorous math concepts and revising her strategies to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts. Cora is celebrated for her Self Direction by taking initiative, managing her time wisely, and getting to work quickly. Maya exhibits Tenacity in her role as chair of the service committee in ASB by being organized and taking the lead to guide her committee to do great things. Awesome job Badgers! Rayleen (not pictured) is a model of a Self-Directed student- she participates during class, asks questions and takes initiative when she needs teacher support. As California's Governor fails to fund new students in public charter schools like ours, we are fundraising to help offset the cost of hiring and training new teachers, purchasing new technology, and curriculum. Our very first Badger of the Week Award of 20/21 went to two awesome young men. This year, we are focusing on the Habits of Success which include Tenacity, Ownership, Craftsmanship, Self-Direction, Stress Management, and Empathy. **Jesse is awarded Craftsmanship - he took such pride in his work that it was used as an example for other students on how to best complete the assignment. **Tyler (not pictured) is awarded for Ownership - he did a great job of communicating and taking ownership of submitting his work despite technology frustrations.
