We could use a few more hands this Saturday 11/14 to help us sheet mulch our orchard! We’ll be laying down cardboard and spreading wood chips, which will help us fight weeds, improve the soil and conserve water. For more information and to sign up, please click on Volunteer at City Slicker Farms at the link in our bio. You’ll also see other volunteer opportunities and info about the COVID precautions we’re taking. We hope to see you soon! #cityslickerfarms #westoaklandfarmpark #sheetmulchingismagical

Have you voted yet? If you’re eligible to vote, please do! In addition to one of the most critical presidential elections of our time, in California we’re also voting on funding for public schools, protections for renters, restoration of voting rights for the formerly incarcerated, affirmative action, rights for gig workers, and ending cash bail. We believe in food justice. Let’s also use our ballots and our voices to stand up for the health, safety and liberation of all me...mbers of our community. Image credit and : @betotlatoani

Much gratitude to everyone who came out to build this beautiful fridge enclosure, and to everyone who comes through and helps keep the fridge stocked. We've joined the @townfridge network of free community food refrigerators all overOakland. They're rooted in the tradition of mutual aid, which emphasizes people helping people without hierarchy or shame. Mutual aid projects have proliferated in the wake of COVID-19 as the need for community members caringfor each other has ...grown. Thisis a natural fit for us. City Slicker Farms' work is rooted in food justice, and at the West Oakland Farm Park we grow thousands of pounds of food each year in order to increase healthy food access to the community. We're able to contribute space and electricity for the fridge at the Farm Park, and can stock it with fresh producewe've grown. As always, first priority goes to homeless, low income and BIPOC community members, as well as members of our Garden Program. However, any community members may drop off food and any community members may pick up food. Beyond food, we hope to expand to supply face masks, a sharps container, and Narcan to help prevent lethal overdoses, as these are important healthneeds in our community as well. Have food you would like to drop off? Need food? Come visit the fridge. Have cloth masks or surgical masks you can donate? Is there another way you would like to support or get involved? Please fill out the contact form on our website to get in touch. The West Oakland Farm Park's address is 2847 Peralta St, Oakland, CA 94608. The fridge is located at the cornerof Peralta and Helen streets, next to the main park entrance, on the Helen Street side.

This empty playground is so sad without you! We have good news playgrounds in Alameda County have now reopened. The county has issued new playground safety guidelines, which include hand washing or sanitizing before and after using the playground (we provide a sink and soap), and limiting playground use to one household at a time. The full list of guidelines are posted at the entrances to the Farm Park and the playground. Want to visit? The West Oakland Farm Park is locat...ed at 2847 Peralta St and is open seven days a week from 12-6. Please click visit us in the link in our bio to learn more. Come play!

Be counted! Please take a few minutes to respond to the census today. Accurate census data helps ensure healthy communities. Communities will not get the resources they need if all people are not counted, and the data will impact the allocation of funds to much-needed resources like nutrition programs, healthcare, schools and roads. Some of City Slicker Farms’ funding even comes from these sources, and that funding helps us support community gardeners and increase access to... healthy food at over 300 community organizations and homes around Alameda County. There is no citizenship question on the 2020 census and you can answer the census regardless of where you were born.
