FREE PAPER SHREDDING The City of Palmdale, in partnership with Waste Management of Antelope Valley, will host a free document destruction/shredding service this Saturday, Jan. 9 from 9 am to 12 pm at the Palmdale landfill, located at 1200 W. City Ranch Road. Palmdale residents may bring up to five standard size boxes of documents for shredding. Proof of residency and account in good standing is required. Metal clips, binders and plastic sheet covers must be removed from docum...ents prior to shredding. Staples, file folders and envelopes are OK. No commercial business. The Pearblossom Highway Rebuild project is nearing completion with final striping work occurring on Segments 2 and 3 and final construction and improvements wrapping up on Segment 1. Work is expected to continue on Segment 1 between 25th St. East and 37th St. East for a few weeks in 2021. For the safety of the project workers and the public, the Segment 1 closure in place at 25th St East will continue during that time. Scheduling of crews and materials is still being finali...zed but the final schedule will be released as soon as possible. In addition to completely rebuilding the roadway, the City leveraged this opportunity to include several new safety features including: Sloped roadway cross section for improved drainage Widened and paved shoulders Over 2,000 feet of guardrail installed at edge of pavement near slopes Higher visibility striping Center median barrier from 25th St. E. to 30th St. E. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The City of Palmdale Healing & Honor Field 2020, a colorful display of American flags honoring heroes, is seeking adult volunteers and to help set up and assist throughout the duration of the display, which will be featured at Pelona Vista Park, 37800 Tierra Subida Ave. in Palmdale, from Nov.1 through Nov. 11. Interested persons may sign up to volunteer at https://cityofpalmdale.org/1003/Healing-Field . Volunteer positions include flag installer, ceremon...y greeter, information booth, flag finder, evening ambassador and overnight security. Most shifts are two hours, except overnight security. Volunteers need to be able to work independently, be approachable, and provide correct information to guests in a friendly manner. Current COVID-19 guidelines for social distancing and mask wearing will be required for all volunteers. Orientation and training will be available before the display opens. The Palmdale Healing & Honor Field will be open 24 hours daily, concluding at 5 pm on November 11. An information booth will be staffed each day from 9 am to 5 pm. An opening ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 pm. The City’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 am. Details on both events will be announced as the dates get closer. The City will continue to monitor updated COVID-19 regulations.
