Our friends at Palo Alto Players are continuing their 90th season with the award-winning off-Broadway musical "The Last Five Years." Starring real-life married couple Chris and Marah Sotelo, this intimate and alluring musical by modern theatre icon Jason Robert Brown chronicles the five year relationship of a young couple whose path takes them in different directions in more ways than one. Tomorrow morning at 5:29 a.m., we release the first episode of our new podcast series, "Spooky Lights." You don't have to get up early to listen to original Halloween-style stories and poems read by the City Lights community, but we would salute your dedication. According to The Mercury News, our new podcast just may be one of the "top virtual events and socially distanced fun happening this Halloween season." We'll take it. Episode 1 features:... Congratulations to our general manager, Anne Younan, who has joined the board of Theatre Bay Area! She brings her vast experience (three decades with City Lights) onstage and off, her South Bay perspective, and general awesomeness to TBA. Board president Debbie Chinn noted that, In tough times, "One of our greatest resources are our board members who provide expertise, advice, counsel, connections, and guidance." Also newly joining the board is musician, computer science p...rofessor, theater maker, and arts advocate and technologist Armando Fox. Anne is also a member of TBA's Theatres Advancing Social Change cohort and the newly formed Bay Area Theater Accountability Workgroup. -Rebecca

The Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Awards is a program of the Rotary Club of San Jose created in honor and memory of the iconic Mercury News columnist who did so much to publicize and support the arts in Silicon Valley. Congrats to this year's Leigh Weimers winners: Justin Keyes, Lydia Rae Black, Alex Arango and Amy D. This video shows off each winner's talent and I PROMISE, it's worth the watch! Psst...did you know that you can use part of your City Lights season pass next season, too? Yep, it's no secret that we're not getting to do the shows we wanted. So we've turned all passes into Flex Passes: six admissions that you can use in any combination of shows. And if you can't use them all in 2020-21 (#thankscovid), no worries. Well, even if we can't be on stage right now, we can still hang out with costume designers Pat Tyler and Melissa Sanchez. They'll join us at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, on The Next Stage to chat about some of their favorite shows, including "LIZZIE" (2017), "The Elephant Man" (2016) and "Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (2015).
