Congratulations to ATHRELLE! While he was chosen as a Student of the Month for many reasons, perhaps most notably is that Athrelle not only shows up to class ready to engage, but to dive deep into the material, extracting as much knowledge and wisdom and insight from his education as possible. In doing so, he encourages his peers to do the same, and radiates joy and encouragement in the process. We’re so proud of you Athrelle - keep it up!

We believe in the power of Community - of support, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. While this is something we’re thankful to have cultivated at City Heights Prep, it’s also something we’re thankful to have found in our neighborhood beyond. Today’s shoutout goes to... CRYSTAL! She shows up with happiness and dedication to her classes, and is consistently willing to participate and learn. Thank you for spreading your joy and exemplifying a strong work ethic Crystal - we’re proud of you!

Sending a big Panther shout out to Delnarm this morning! Since the 2020-21 school year began, Delnarm has stood out as a student that dives into his classes, ready to participate and make the most out of learning. His willingness to try new things and the enthusiasm he brings to his education have positively impacted us all, and we’re excited to recognize him today! Congratulations Delnarm!

This student has been described as a brave leader, a fearless debater, a hard worker, a dedicated learner, and as someone who embodies a growth mindset. Although she shines in many of her classes, there’s one in particular that we’ve been blown away by her self-motivation in: Foreign Language. If you haven’t guessed by now, this Panther Shout Out goes to... Karen Martinez! For the positive energy you bring, the incredible effort you put forth, and the growth you exhibit: well done! We’re so proud!

Whether it’s learning a new skill, acquiring new knowledge, or achieving a new milestone, we often envision the path to success one way in our minds, yet it plays out entirey different in reality. On the path to success, we will make mistakes, we will stumble, and we will fall; it’s not a straight shot. But with each twist and turn, we will learn, we will grow, we will pick ourselves back up, and we will become stronger and wiser for the journey.

This morning, we’re also sending a big Panther shoutout to Danny Gomez of the 7th grade! We’re so proud of him and the growth he’s exhibited since Distance Learning has begun - from his consistent participation to the way he shows up to class ready to learn, he truly exemplifies what it means to be a student leader.

Today’s Panther Shout Out goes to... Hamza! From completing all of his work to communicating with his teachers, Hamza has exemplified true responsibility and leadership during this time of Distance Learning. We’re proud of you Hamza!

Between killing it with her note taking, participating in class, working hard on assignments, and sharing her positive energy with us all, Faisa Abdi has gone above and beyond and we’re excited to give her a proper Panther shout out in recognition of her Distance Learning efforts! Great job Faisa! We’re proud of you!

Just a little growth mindset inspiration on this beautiful morning: What is one thing you’re currently working towards? That you can’t quite do... yet? What is one step you can take towards it today?... Getting to an end goal can feel overwhelming, and even paralyzing. That’s where the importance of breaking down goals into steps comes in! Step by step, day by day, we’ll get there. For now though, lets remember to seize the day in front of us.

At City Heights Prep, we believe that a growth mindset is a vital component of success- afterall, by changing the way you think, you can change the way you learn! Yet, we’re also aware that cultivating this kind of mindset is no easy task. Because of that, we’ve decided to feature a short compilation of growth-oriented thoughts you could use to recognize and replace some of those pesky fixed-oriented thoughts that we all tend to struggle with at times. Try to redefine what failure means to you, and remember: patience is key.

Our first shout out of the 2020 school year goes to... Isabel Hernandez of the 6th grade! While Distance Learning does present its fair share of challenges, Isabel continues to rise to the occassion with her admirable growth mindset and dedication to learning. Great job Isabel! We’re so proud of you!
