Smoke hurts animals too. The American Veterinary Medical Association is a great resource for tips related to preventative care of your pets and livestock during the fires. One thing they don't mention is outdoor water. If you have water outside, remember to dump and refill it regularly. Ash from the fires is toxic for animals and humans. For more tips to protect pets and livestock during these fires visit The American Veterinary Medical Association ... https://www.avma.org//emergency/wildfire-smoke-and-animals

The City of Folsom sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting that the governor allow individual counties autonomy in reopening non-essential businesses while following deliberative and safe guidelines. Similar to many small- to mid-size cities, the City of Folsom is experiencing significant economic challenges due to the public health emergency, which will adversely impact the city’s ability to provide essential public services. The letter formally requests the governor establish a city revenue stabilization fund; allocate a share of the State’s CARES Act funding to cities with populations under 500,000; and create a COVID-19 financing vehicle to support immediate cash flow needs. Happy National Animal Control and Appreciation Week! This year's National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week is an especially important one, as animal control officers and shelter staff everywhere continue to work on the front lines to navigate the unexpected challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year we want to highlight Folsom's Animal Services Officer, Cedar Catanio. ASO Catanio is the solo ASO for the community of Folsom, currently sitting at a population of ...just over 79,000 and rising yearly. Surrounding communities with similar populations have, on average, two to three animal control officers. ASO Catanio works tirelessly to protect the welfare of helpless animals that endure injury, disease, abuse and starvation, and works to protect the community of Folsom from the spread of disease by enforcing animal control laws and educating the public on proper pet care. ASO Catanio's days range from barking dog calls, to pulling baby duck from storm drains, to pulling drowning dogs from swimming pools, to delivering the sad news to an owner that their fur baby didn't make it. She has a very difficult job but maintains a positive attitude non the less. At home, ASO Catanio has two fur babies who eagerly await her return, daily! She is an outdoor enthusiast at heart and spends as much of her time-off there, often with her pups. Let's show her some appreciation for all her hard work!
