Look how many winter visitors our Laurel Canyon Claw Cam captured, including a grey fox visit which is consistent with multiple recent grey fox sightings that have been reported to us from residents of Laurel and Nichols Canyons. ___________________________________________________ Spotted LA wildlife recently? This may look like a photo, but it is actually a drawing from @corey.bond ! The drawing is based on a CLAW nature cam photo from 2017. Since then, we have caught multiple pictures of this uncollared mountain lion, and sightings have been reported throughout the Eastern Santa Monica Mountains, from the 405 to 101 freeways. He is the only known mountain lion in this region and is successfully coexisting with thousands of residents. Corey draws inspiration from film noir with a... sensibility that encompasses imagery of predatory animals, solitary figures, urban landscapes, surveillance footage, and other alternative perspectives. Corey studied at Art Center College of Design and Maryland Institute. He currently lives and works in New York City. Check out his page for more amazing art. Thanks for sharing Corey! _________________________________________________Spotted LA wildlife recently? AB 1788 is now law! The California state bill which places a moratorium on the most dangerous rodenticides went into effect on January 1, 2021. While not all rodenticides are banned under this law, it is up to all of us to ensure that the banned "second generation" category of rodenticides is not used. Check out our webpage for more info and steps you can take to report illegal usage of these poisons: http://www.clawonline.org/how-to-report-illegal-rodenticide
Heya! You’ll want your sound up for this one! Some rain deer stopped by our CLAW Nature Cam during our recent storm!
We did it! We are so touched that so many of you donated to our matching campaign and helped us to pass our goal of $10,000! We know there are many causes to support in this difficult time, and we are so appreciative of your support to CLAW. We are starting the new year off more dedicated than ever to protect our local wildlife!
It's the last day to double your dollars! Our matching campaign ends tonight, and we are so close to our goal of $10,000! Your donation could be the one that pushes us over! Thank you to everyone who has supported CLAW in 2020!
CLAW wishes you a safe, joyous, and wild holiday!
Earlier this week, we got one final gift of the year from our CLAW nature cam. This uncollared mountain lion of the Eastern Santa Monica Mountains is itching to put 2020 behind us! CLAW is part of a local coalition seeking a grant to protect this land.
Check out CLAW's exhibit page at the 5th Annual P-22 Day Festival this Saturday. This year, P-22 is going virtual!

We are finally at the end of a long battle to protect California wildlife! AB 1788, the bill that places a moratorium on the use of second generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs), passed the State Senate with a vote of 23-7. The bill was then given concurrence by the State Assembly with a vote of 46-11, at 10:17 PM last night, less than two hours before the Midnight deadline!... Governor Gavin Newsom now has 30 days to sign the bill into law! CLAW would like to thank the thousands of Californians who voiced their support for this bill, and a special thanks goes out to the bill’s author Assembly Member Richard Bloom, co-authors Assemblymember Laura Friedman and Senator Henry Stern, and bill sponsors Animal Legal Defense Fund, Center for Biological Diversity, and Raptors Are The Solution (RATS).
"Now, we need this kind of [rodenticide] restriction even more. If we care at all about maintaining the wildlife that makes California such a wondrous blend of urban and wild, we have to do our part to protect it." Tomorrow is the day! AB 1788 will be voted on by the full state senate on Monday. There is still time to call your state senator and ask them to support a moratorium on these rodenticides in California!
Breaking news from Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area that a bobcat and mountain lion have both been confirmed to have died directly as a result of anticoagulant rodenticide exposure. There is STILL time to voice your support for AB 1788, which would place a moratorium on these rodenticides. Call your State Senator and State Assemblymember and tell them to vote "yes" on AB 1788. See comments for a link to find out who your representatives are.

These LA coyotes want to remind you that it is illegal to catch and release them! According to law, coyotes that have been trapped must either be released immediately in the same location or killed, though many licensed trappers will insist that they are "humanely" removing them. Additionally, it is illegal to use leg or snare traps in Los Angeles. If you have seen an advertisement or a social media post that promotes these activities, you can report them to California Fish and Wildlife's tip line at 888-334-2258 or text your tip to 847411.
