It is never okay to drive drunk or high. Before you go out designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride share service. If a friend or family member is impaired and planning to drive, take their keys and help them make arrangements to get home safely. They will thank you later.

Today, after over 38 years with the California Highway Patrol, Commissioner Warren Stanley has announced his retirement effective November 17, 2020. He has expr...essed his gratitude to Governor Newsom, and his staff, for the years of partnership and support. He would also like to thank the public for the opportunity to serve you all. Finally, he would like to congratulate Deputy Commissioner Amanda Ray on her appointment to Commissioner on November 17, 2020. Deputy Commissioner Ray has been a pioneer for women in law enforcement as the first female in the CHP’s 91-year history to hold the position of Commissioner for the nation’s largest state police agency. Throughout her career, she has actively engaged with the communities she serves, seeking every opportunity to participate in outreach events, and active involvement in departmental programs to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the people of California.

So, this just happened. 134 MPH, thank you Officer Mota for saving this gentlemans life. Can you guess what the most common excuse is for speeding?

Today our officer was traveling northbound on SR 135 south of SR 1 in the #2 lane at 60 mph. He noticed a vehicle approaching him from the rear at a high speed. The officers Radar registered at 110mph. The driver continued in the #1 lane past the officer at 110mph. The driver was so oblivious he didn't realized he was passing a marked CHP patrol vehicle. WOW!!! Don't be this guy. He may be paying a hefty fine and had his vehicle towed. Speeding endangers everyone on the road. In 2018 speeding killed 9,378 people.

NHTSA data shows that vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children age 13 and under. 37 percent of children killed in car crashes were unrestrained and almost 60 percent of children’s safety seats were used incorrectly. Today, we honor and remember the lives lost in the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001, as well as the brave women and men who have served in defense of our nation as a result of these attacks. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice they have made for our country.

Have you heard of the Senior Ombudsman Program? It is a program which aims to keep seniors driving for as long as they can do so safely. It is designed to help older drivers navigate DMV processes and advise them about ways to stay safe on the road.
