18-year-old driver racks up 2 misdemeanors, 4 points, and his vehicle towed all within in twenty minutes! On the first encounter our officers stopped an 18-year-old driver for going 115 MPH and driving in a reckless manner on eastbound I-580, near Seminary Avenue. Officer Jimenez and Officer Lopez tried to get through to the youngster by citing him for the speed and chalking up the other bad driving habits as a teachable moment. Fast forward only 20 minutes later and the sam...e driver is stopped by the same officers at speeds near 100 MPH, weaving in/out of lanes, tailgating, and attempting to pass on the center-divide. Seeing the teachable moment was lost, the officers arrested the driver for Reckless Driving and towed his car. #beteachable #eatyourhumblepie #CHP375

That’s not his batting average - that’s his BAC! (Blood Alcohol Concentration) This driver was stopped for weaving in and out of lanes on the 405 Fwy at 40 MPH ...and eventually arrested for suspicion of DUI. Should have used a DH - we mean DD - to make it home safe. Or even taken the walk to a hotel before getting in his car. Instead, he line-drived it with us straight to the slammer. NOT WORTH IT. The legal limit while driving a vehicle in California is .08% BAC. While many people know the dangers of driving impaired, people still do it - everyday.

When you're 19 years-old, with a BAC well over the legal limit and are bombing down the Dublin grade at 104 MPH, without a care in the world...and...you suddenly see the red and blue lights in your rear-view mirror. What do you think was going through his mind when he saw us on his tail? Castro Valley News #CHP375

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his own life for his friends" - John 15:13. Today, we honor Officer Kenyon M. Youngstrom. On September... 4, 2012, Officer Youngstrom #18063 was working patrol in the Contra Costa Area, southbound I-680, just south of Livorna Road. His beat partner, Officer Tyler Carlton #19662 radioed to Officer Youngstrom and requested assistance with stopping a Jeep approaching his location. Officer Youngstrom flagged the Jeep to the right shoulder, and it came to a stop behind his patrol vehicle. Officer Youngstrom approached the vehicle to make contact with the driver. Simultaneously, Officer Carlton parked his patrol vehicle directly to the rear of the Jeep. As Officer Youngstrom made contact with the driver of the Jeep, the driver opened fire, striking Officer Youngstrom. Officer Carlton observed this action and immediately fired upon the driver of the Jeep, mortally wounding him. Officer Youngstrom succumbed to his injuries on September 5, 2012, at 6:05 p.m. Officer Youngstrom was 37 years old, and a member of the patrol for seven years. Thank you, Kenyon - for the many lives you saved on this day and those that followed with your gift of your organs to many that were in need. Many are forever indebted to you, and your family! You are missed and will never be forgotten! Officer Youngstrom is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Alex and Andrew; daughters, Madison and Kennedy; parents, Jill and Guy; Brothers, Cameron, Clinton, Brandon, Tyson and sister, Amber. And they are specifically in our thoughts and prayers on this memorial day of reflection.
