Today, once again, we are saying goodbye to three of California’s Finest! Captain Scott Parker, Sergeant Norman Vandermeyde, and Officer Trevor Risbry are retiring today, and starting a new chapter in their lives. All three we be greatly missed by everyone here at the Auburn Area. We all wish you the best in retirement and your future endeavours, whatever they may be.

On 10/26/20 in the afternoon Officer McMahon spotted a motorcyclist, later identified as Anthony Gibbons Jr. from Colfax, riding his 2006 Yamaha street bike at a high rate of speed on SR-65 near Sunset. Officer McMahon attempted to stop Gibbons, but he fled, reaching speeds over 130mph. As they traveled onto westbound I-80, and subsequently onto Douglas Blvd. in Roseville, Officer McMahon terminated his pursuit, due to Gibbons reckless driving and endangering the public. Through Officer McMahon’s continued investigation, he was able to identify Gibbons and locate his place of employment. Yesterday, 10/29/20, Officer McMahon waited for Gibbons to leave his work and at approximately 5pm, Gibbons was taken into custody for Felony Evading. #auburnchp #shouldofjustpulledover #speedkills #donttrytogetawayorwewillfindaplaceforyoutostay

We found this girl about an hour ago on Horseshoe Bar Rd. and Tudsbury. No collar. She’ll be at Loomis Basin Vet at 3901 Sierra College Blvd. (916) 805-5815.

Due to an earlier traffic collision this morning where a vehicle struck a power line on Ophir Rd, both eastbound and westbound I-80 are shut down. Eastbound traffic is being diverted off at Newcastle and westbound at Ophir Rd.

Major injury traffic collision SR-65 at Riosa Rd. Both big rig trucks have been moved to clear the traffic lanes but expect traffic delays in the area.

CHP units starting pursuing a vehicle approximately 30 minutes ago which began near the Thunder Valley Casino and came to an end on the Antelope Rd. offramp from westbound I-80. Both the male driver and female passenger were taken into custody at the scene.

So we saw this post from Friends of Wheatland yesterday about one of our officers writing tickets just over 55 mph on the stretch of SR-65, north of Wise Rd. Interesting to find out that everyone that was stopped was driving more than 20 mph over that posted speed limit. (That area has had several major injury and fatal traffic collisions, due to speed). Fortunately, that officer was also able to stop another driver heading into this area at over 120! #drivetostayalive #makingwheatlandsafeagain

This Dodge Durango was stopped this morning on westbound I-80 at Bell Rd. Props to our officer for getting this driver off the road.

We’re currently investigating a head-on traffic collision on Athens Ave. near Foothills. Please avoid the area. Both directions of traffic on Athens are closed. We should have the roadway open in 30-45 minutes.

Our Sgt. Vandermeyde stopped to assist a few kittens from the Placer County Animal Shelter, but then their brothers and sisters showed up, thinking they were going on a ride-a-long! Looks like the sergeant may of had his hands full with this group.

Mt Vernon Rd. just west of Ayres Holmes is temporarily closed due to PG&E repairing a power pole from an earlier traffic collision.
