With heavy hearts we announce the End of Watch for Antelope Valley CHP Officer Andy Ornelas, ID 21685. @californiahighwaypatrol On November 23, 2020, at approximately 7:05 pm, Officer Ornelas was riding his departmental motorcycle when a motorist pulled from the right shoulder to make a U-turn directly in his path. Officer Ornelas’ motorcycle struck the other vehicle, causing him to be thrown from his motorcycle. Officer Ornelas was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital i...n Lancaster. Despite significant life-saving efforts by medical personnel, on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Officer Ornelas succumbed to his injuries. Officer Ornelas is survived by his wife, mother, father, brother, and sister. Officer Ornelas was a member of the Department for four years.

Today, after over 38 years with the California Highway Patrol, Commissioner Warren Stanley has announced his retirement effective November 17, 2020. He has expressed his gratitude to Governor Newsom, and his staff, for the years of partnership and support. He would also like to thank the public for the opportunity to serve you all. Finally, he would like to congratulate Deputy Commissioner Amanda Ray on her appointment to Commissioner on November 17, 2020. Deputy Commissioner... Ray has been a pioneer for women in law enforcement as the first female in the CHP’s 91-year history to hold the position of Commissioner for the nation’s largest state police agency. Even in these times of crisis, there is still work to be done. Early this week, some of our officers were sent to area offices to help give a hand to those who are short staffed. Today, we continue to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. #chpacademy

Although the Academy does not have cadets to perform the fountain ceremony to honor our fallen officers, the instructors and staff continue the tradition and polished the brass of those remembered. #chpacademy
