Another storm is on its way. With rain and snow being predicted, make sure you’re prepared before driving. Check road closures by going to www.Quickmap.dot.ca.gov. Keep batteries, flashlights, blankets, food, water, phone chargers, and anything else you feel is essential in your vehicle. ... Leave early, expect delays, and let family know where you are going and when you should be there. Make sure your vehicle is safe to drive - good tires, good windshield wipers, good brakes, and working lights. Be safe and have a great week. #chpmojave #chp #californiahighwaypatrol #dodgecharger #lawenforcement #california #highwaypatrol #statepolice #safetyservicesecurity

As Mr. Coley began making a turn in the intersection, the juvenile entered the intersection from the opposite direction and struck Mr. Coley's vehicle head-on. The juvenile's vehicle continued, out of control, in a northwesterly direction and struck a light pole on the northwest corner of Rosamond Boulevard and 25th St West. The juvenile driver succumbed to his injuries on scene. Mr. Coley was transported to and treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. This collision is still under investigation. Earlier today officers responded to a truck fire on SR-14, just north of SR-58. Kern County Fire Department and California City Fire Department extinguished the blaze quickly. Thankfully no one was injured and traffic was only briefly impacted. While the cause of the fire is unknown at the moment, this should remind everyone to properly maintain their vehicle. Ensuring all fluids are full, brakes are in proper working order, and the tires are in good condition will help keep your vehicle moving and on the road longer. If you are hauling anything, ensure no chains are dragging on the ground. Stay safe Kern County.

It’s a new week and we want everyone to drive safely. Although it’s been a bit of a rough start for some, thankfully there have been no injuries. While the actual cause of this collision is pending and under investigation, slow down and pay attention to the road. It’s easy to get distracted by the desert flowers so we encourage everyone to stay focused on the road.

This morning our officers responded to reports of several small brush fires along SR-14, north of Mojave. Thankfully the fires were small and quickly extinguished. They serve as a reminder to keep all lit substances (cigarettes) inside your vehicle and to ensure all equipment on your vehicle is properly secured. Dragging chains or pieces of metal create sparks that will quickly ignite a fire. If you see someone starting a fire, call 9-1-1 immediately and be prepared to give your location and a description of the person. Let’s keep Kern County beautiful! #chp #chpmojave #californiahighwaypatrol #safetyservicesecurity

Tales from a VIN officer When purchasing a vehicle with a salvage title, the Department of Motor Vehicles routinely refers owners of salvaged vehicles to the California Highway Patrol for a salvage vehicle inspection. The salvage vehicle inspection helps to ensure that a vehicle is not reassembled with stolen parts and includes a safety inspection. When all of a vehicles safety systems are working, there are warning lights that illuminate in the vehicle’s dashboard. If the... vehicle is factory equipped with airbags, one of those lights is an airbag (or for some models, SRS) light. When the system is working properly, this light will come on when the ignition is turned on and will either stay light steadily or blink for a few seconds, but then will immediately turn off and stay off. If the light doesn’t come on at all, or it comes on and stays on, or it comes on and continually blinks (sometimes in a numbered pattern), then there could be something wrong with the vehicle’s safety systems. A malfunctioning airbag light doesn’t always indicate a problem with the airbags themselves; it could represent a problem in the steering wheel, like a clockspring, or a problem with the seatbelts. This is something the purchaser of any salvaged vehicle should look for. Pictured is an example of airbag lights and an instrument cluster in a vehicle that came to our office for inspection in which the malfunctioning airbag light was covered up with paint. If your vehicle’s airbag lights aren’t working properly, take your vehicle to a certified mechanic so you can have the problem diagnosed and repaired. When working properly, these safety systems save lives! Stay safe Kern County!
