In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, was asked to create a Christmas special for CBS featuring the Peanuts Chara...cters. He agreed with one requirement, that they allow him to include the story of the birth of Jesus. Although the stations executives were hesitant and tried to convince him otherwise, Schulz was insistent. As a result, for the past 50 plus years, millions of people have watched and A Charlie Brown Christmas and heard the story of Jesus and what Christmas is all about. It wasn’t until a few years back that I realized a hidden message in the film. Linus, a child who seems to have some insecurities as he carries a security blanket with him at all times. In fact, Linus NEVER drops his blanket, except once.... While sharing the message of what Christmas is all about, Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words, fear not! In this seemingly innocent moment, Linus delivers a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. We are to fear not, for Jesus is born. We needn’t rely on material things for security, we have God with us, Immanuel, (Matthew 1:23) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior - the true meaning of Christmas. Awhile back, someone informed me, indignantly so, that Linus picks up his blanket at the end of the speech so my interpretation must be wrong. Well, he was right, Linus does pick up his blanket at the end of his speech. However, he drops it again later... Amid big, bright, colorful, shiny artificial trees, Charlie Brown chose the least of these, a little, wooden tree with just a few branches. Shortly thereafter, Linus uses his blanket to wrap about the base of the tree and says, Maybe it just needs a little love. In that moment, the tree awakens, stands tall and firm. A reminder that no matter who we are, how many mistakes we’ve made, a little love can make all the difference. Let’s strive to fear not (Luke 2:10) and love one another (John 13:34), not just at Christmastime, but the whole year through. Borrowed from Charlene M. Speer & ‘Christian Life Ministry’ on Facebook...

While listening to one of my regular podcasts the other day, I realized I was a little familiar with this piece of history! I’ve learned a little about Rancho C...ucamonga history and the area where I was raised; so it was interesting to hear this version and wondered how it compared to things I’ve read on this group. I knew I wanted to share it here as soon as I heard it! See more

SAD NEWS!!!!!! THE MUSEUM HAS LOST ITS LOCATION The Southern California Medical Museum (SCMM) is the only medical history museum in Southern California. It has ...been serving our communities for 37 years. During this time we have hosted thousands of visitors from school age to senior citizens, provided the medicine merit badge to hundreds of Boy Scouts (boys and girls) and have consulted on television shows and motion pictures, and provided many displays and presentations. Visitors have come from all over the state, even as far as Europe and Asia. A visit to the museum has been part of the curriculum of several professional schools. All fabulous volunteer committee members and others have put in countless hours making the SCMM an enriching experience for our guests. We have been housed at Western University in Pomona for five years and has been very beneficial to both parties, with participation by medical students, librarians and SCMM contributions to the community and PR of the school. So after this long and very successful arrangement, it came as a shock that our museum was told that we had to pack up all of our displays, materials and stored items and be out of the building in less than 90 days. This will definitely be a damaging blow to the SCMM. We barely have time to arrange storage of our materials, let alone find a new location. So, we are placing an appeal to all who read this note. If you care at all about medical history, then we implore you to help us come up with a solution. Do you know of any organization that may wish to sponsor the SCMM? A city? A hospital? Another medical school, perhaps? If you have any contacts that could be of help, please connect with Debbie Long at 909-273-6000 or [email protected]. See more
