On October 24, 2020, the Chinese American Museum will commemorate the historic tragedy known as the Los Angeles Chinese Massacre of 1871. Growing anti-Chinese sentiment in the region led to the brutal killing of eighteen victims in 1871. One of the most heinous acts of racially motivated violence Los Angeles has ever experienced took place in the streets near our present-day museum. We invite you to stand with us virtually in commemorating the lives lost 149 years ago. ... Since the Chinese American Museum opened its doors in 2003, we have been amazed by how we have grown as a museum. Beyond sharing our community’s history, we have also become a resource for education, diversity, and inclusion across Southern California and beyond. This #GivingTuesday, please consider supporting CAM’s mission by donating at camla.org/donatenow (https://www.paypal.com/donate/)! This year has been a particularly defining moment for both the museum and the nation.... This clip [https://vimeo.com/483862450] comes from our 24th Annual Historymakers Awards Gala video presentation, with words from our board president Dr. Gay Yuen. CAM has had the responsibility of addressing and denouncing the acts of hate experienced by Chinese Americans all across the country. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum has been closed to the public, but we have been able to continue operations and programs from home with the help of public support and our generous donors. With all that we do to advance our mission, please consider donating to CAM this holiday season. . . 2003(#GivingTuesday): camla.org/donatenow 24 (COVID-19) - - #GivingTuesday #givingtuesday2020 #CAM #chineseamericanmuseum #Museum #MuseumFromHome #museums #support #chinatown #losangeles #dtla #nonprofit #API #asianamerican #chineseamerican #education #HistoryMakers

Hi it’s Ashley again and I would like to wish all of you a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated this year on October 1st. I chose to do my final project on the Mid-Autumn Festival because it is an incredibly important celebration to appreciate the full moon and end of the summer harvest. To show thanks and appreciation, friends and family gift mooncakes and presents to colleagues and loved ones prior to the day. On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival,... many families reunite for dinner, admire the full moon, and eat delicious mooncakes. The roundness of the full moon symbolizes the complete gathering of a family. In my family, we celebrate the night by visiting my grandparents’ house and sharing the ultimate feast my grandma prepares for everyone. I always look forward to savoring succulent roast duck and fresh vegetables. Towards the end of the night, we would gather around to try all different kinds of mooncakes and rate which one was the most delicious. Although it’s tough to get together this year, that connection and bond is especially important. Even though I won’t be able to reunite with my family for a feast this year, I’m looking forward to video chatting from everyone’s own dinner table! . . . 101 - - #CAM #ChineseAmericanMuseum #Museums #museumfromhome #DTLA #LosAngeles #Chinatown #ChineseAmerican #AsianAmerican #API #moonfestival #midautumnfestival #mooncakes #roastduck #mooncake #moon #familyreunion #lanterns #intern #internfinalproject #GettyIntern #GettyMui #CAMIntern #getty #october
