When Arabella is a bit older, she’ll know that as she was recovering from surgery, there were complete strangers out there who cared enough to send her a Valentine. Thank you to everyone who has sent cards to our patients. There is still time to send yours. It's free and easy, and makes our patients' day so much better! Visit http://bit.ly/ValCards4Kids
You may not know them, but you can still cheer them up! Send our patients a Valentine’s Day card online. We’ll print it out and make sure every patient gets a message. It’s free and easy, and can really make a difference to their day: http://bit.ly/ValDay-CHLA
2020 was tough for everyone, but for some it's been a year of recovery, clarity and hope. Take Alessio for example: diagnosed with a rare lung disorder that has no cure, Alessio faced an uncertain future. But today he’s thriving. Seeing him experience the simple joys of being a kidjumping on the trampoline with his brother, reading books or tackling puzzlesthat's what it's all about. Read his story: https://www.chla.org//imagine-ma/truly-remarkable-recovery
As we wrap up the year and talk about new beginnings, we wanted to share a special story about Jacob, captured here smiling for the first time after his liver transplant surgery. His smile marked his new beginning, made possible by a purely selfless, heroic act from a complete stranger thousands of miles away, and a team of medical experts like no other. Kindness matters, and that's what we wish for everyone in 2021. Happy New Year!
How do you bring holiday cheer to kids during a pandemic? The stars from CBS Studios have it all figured out. For the tenth year in a row, they’ve helped celebrate at CHLA with countless toys and messages of joy, and 2020 was no different!
GAMECHANGED! The first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to frontline staff at CHLA. It’s truly a moment worth celebrating in our efforts to defeat the virus! TAKE THAT COVID-19!
With #COVID19 case rates higher than ever, it is critical to wear the right mask, the right way, right now. https://www.chla.org//healt/the-do-s-and-don-ts-face-masks #MaskUp
If your sports heroes can't be there in person, what's the next best thing? Fred the Friendly Video Chatting Robot rolled into CHLA to connect our patients with players from the Los Angeles Chargers. Players tried to answer riddles, chatted about holiday gift wishes, and played Name That Song. Thanks Chargers, and thanks for rolling by, Fred! Or should we say: bleep bloop !
It's that time of the year again! Send your cards today and help kids in the hospital like Ethan feel some joy on Halloween. We asked Ethan what kind of message people should write on the Halloween cards. He answered: "Write something that you mean. Try to lift kids’ spirits. Make them excited for the next Halloween, or to appreciate this Halloween more. I couldn’t go trick-or-treating last year because I was stuck in the hospital, and those little cards made me feel really h...appy." To send your card, go to http://bit.ly/CHLA-Halloween Also, this year a generous donor will give $1 to the hospital for each card that you send, so please share! The more the merrier (or scarier )!
Remember when two of our finest cleats designers, Elijah and Nano, offered to decorate Justin Turner's footwear? Well, those cleats got him two home runs! As a thank you, Justin wanted to give the boys a little present. To the boys' surprise, the presents still have dirt on them!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s a ... hmm. A cow-like tiger? Thanks for making us laugh, LA Kings! #HockeyFightsCancer
This is Xitlali. She is living proof that COVID-19 can affect kidsand seriously. After her mother rushed her to the Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, she was diagnosed with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a mysterious illness affecting kids who have been exposed to COVID-19. Xitlali’s parents were terrified. After receiving expert care for 11 days, she was happily discharged. This pandemic is constantly finding new ways to make health care more expensive. Your support is more vital now than ever. Help kids like Xitlali: http://bit.ly/XitlaliFB
This day matters. It’s a day where we see true compassion, care and love for the kids and staff here at CHLA. As Ellen K and her son Calvin put it: You hope to never have to go through those doors, but when you have to, it’s the best place to be. Don’t miss out on all the great interviews KOST 103.5 has lined up for today! Jamie Lee Curtis Danielle Fishel, Melanie Griffith, Seal and Luc Robitaille will be on air, along with patients and other special guests! Big thanks to the LA Galaxy for honoring the kids at Children's Hospital Los Angeles during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Thanks for the swag and for throwing them a watch party! As you can see, we're all set to #kickchildhoodcancer!
When Justin Turner asks you to decorate his cleats for an upcoming game, you grab your markers, let out your best Grito and put your corazon and soul into it! Check out how Nano gets in the zone as he puts the finishing touches on Justin’s latest footwear. Justin Turner Foundation Kourtney Turner
What do you get when a Child Life specialist tells a corny joke to one of her patients? Wait for it a little longer he’s getting there landing gear deployed and ohhhh! Recorded time of recognition: 12 seconds!
For nearly two decades, Panda Express has supported us quietly and consistently. We’re so grateful that they haven’t let the pandemic stop them from being there for the kids at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Thank you Panda Express!
250 days in the hospital, but THIS one is Erika's birthday! Our nurses couldn't let the day go by unnoticed. Feliz cumpleaños to this fighter !
Imagine being a kid and needing dialysis treatments multiple times a week for three hours each visit. These children miss a lot of school, as well as time spent just being kids. But our caregivers do something really special: they create themed parties to entertain patients during visits, and distract them from those long treatments while still providing the lifesaving care that they need. Mahalo to the Dialysis team for taking such excellent care of our patients!
Music can make a morning beautiful, even when you're in the hospital. This duet between our 17-year-old #scoliosis patient Jack and Dr. Alicia Easley will start your day off right!
Your kind words matter! Our team members have been touched by the love and support of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. To show these CHLA heroes just how appreciated they are, we posted your social media messages throughout the hospital. Thanks for cheering the team on!
