Emily McKillicam is a sophomore majoring in Kinesiology with the option in Movement StudiesFitness & Wellness. Her favorite class this semester was KINE 320W with Sae-Mi Lee, because she learned about working with people and athletes. This summer she’ll be a river guide in the South Forks of the American River. I love being outdoors so having a job that lets me go outside every day and jump in the river sounds like a good plan to me. ... What are your plans for the summer? Katie Rosauer is an exercise physiology student graduating this semester. During her time with us, she's been an outstanding student and active community member. When the Camp Fire hit in November, Rosauer was a medical scribe at Feather River Hospital’s emergency room. She was dedicated to help those in need, leading her to co-create Medspire, a mobile clinic with free healthcare to help people affected by the Camp Fire. A GoFundMe helped them raise over $31,000. Rosauer i...s now a medical scribe for the dermatology department at Oroville Hospital. After graduating, she wants to become a physicians assistant. We know she’ll continue to do big things. Congrats, Katie! California State University, Chico CSU, Chico College of Communication and Education

Dr. Luciana Braga grew up in the urban city of Rio, Brazil. In 2017, she received a grant from SHAPE America and has been studying the movement culture for girls in rural communities in Northern California. Dr. Braga wants to create physical education curriculum that is meaningful and engaging for girls in these areas. Students should be learning physical activities that they can do outside of school. What they can do varies due to their cultural and geographical environmen...t." She recently presented her findings at the SHAPE America National Convention in Florida, and is excited to finish her manuscript by the end of August. Her next goal is to raise money for the high school where she completed her research. Congrats, Dr. Braga! California State University, Chico CSU, Chico College of Communication and Education

The Strength and Conditioning Club is one of the many clubs we have in the Kinesiology Department. Advised by Dr. Henderson, their purpose is to provide members with an opportunity to develop their professional portfolio for the field of Strength & Conditioning. This week they had guest speaker Joe Grinstain (pictured far right) share his experience as the owner of Hyperthrive Athletics in Sacramento. Fun fact, he’s a former Chico State Kinesiology grad! Hey, Wildcats! Take a look inside the Chico State Autism Clinic, where the mission is to promote the sensory, motor, communicative and cognitive skills of individuals with autism through a multi-sensory approach learning. Facilitated by the Kinesiology Department, the clinic provides benefits to the community and students. It’s one of the many unique things our department has to offer!
