Lifesaving Medal Yesterday we had the distinct privilege of honoring three of our Chico Police Officers with the prestigious Lifesaving Medal Award who while serving in an official capacity took decisive action to distinguish themselves conspicuously while saving a human life. Officer Peter Durfee On January 6, 2020, a citizen called Chico Police Department to report a subject down in the Safeway store located on W. Sacramento Avenue. Fire personnel were dispatched to the... scene and a medical BOLO was issued. Officer Durfee, who was near the store at the time, heard the BOLO and responded within two minutes. Officer Durfee arrived to find citizens attempting to help an unconscious subject who was clearly not breathing, which was visually obvious by the bluish tint of his skin. Officer Durfee quickly took charge by giving instruction to a nearby Safeway employee, Justin Petersen, to elevate the subject’s head and check vitals while Officer Durfee performed CPR. Once the subject’s pulse returned, Officer Durfee stopped compressions and continued to monitor the subject until medical personnel arrived. It is unknown what caused the medical issue, but the subject did recover and was eventually released from an area hospital. Officer Durfee’s quick and appropriate response saved this subject’s life. Officer Durfee, while serving in an official capacity took decisive action to distinguish himself conspicuously while saving a human life. #chicopoliceofficer #lifesaving #hero #award #congratulations #honor #chicopolice #chicoca #chicocalifornia

In January 2021, the Chico Police Department received an incredible donation from the Chico Community Benefit Luncheon, also known as "Chico Cioppino Feed." The organization donated $26,000 to help establish the new Chico Police Unmanned Ariel System (Drone) Program. As a result of the donation, the Chico Police Department purchased 5 UAS drones and the specialized equipment needed to operate the program safely and professionally. The police department selected four officers ...and one sergeant to kickstart the program. Each officer will attend specialized training to safely and legally fly the UAS' within City jurisdiction. The UAS program is a new specialized unit at the Chico Police Department. UAS programs are a relatively new piece of technology for law enforcement. This technology is critical in improving officer safety, providing efficient service to the community, and providing real-time intelligence to officers on the street. This unit not only enhances police services locally but enhances police services regionally. The UAS drones and pilots will adhere to strict department policy and the strict guidelines and protections of the 4th and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution. When a UAS is deployed in the field, it will likely be used in the following situations. Serious or Fatal Traffic Collisions Missing Persons Investigations Search and Rescue Operations Critical Incident Response Disaster Management Crowd Control Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Investigations Crime Scene Management Perimeter Searches and Security CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives) Incidents Community Relations / Multi-Media Productions Training This program would not have been possible without the Chico Cioppino Feed's support and its mission in serving this community. Since the Chico Cioppino Feed held their first fundraiser in 2015, they have donated nearly half a million dollars. The donations are invested back into the community for causes they feel are responsible and beneficial to the community. The Chico Police Department would like to thank everyone involved in this donation. We are excited to get this unit up and running.

‘Tis the Season to Drive Sober Fa La La La La, La La La La! This driver struck the tree and rolled his vehicle yesterday. As citizens went to help the solo driver inside, he kicked out the side window and ran from the scene. He was apprehended minutes later by responding Officers, identified as the driver, and ultimately arrested for DUI. Especially during the holiday season it’s important to remember there are many options of transportation available and there’s no excuse... to get behind the wheel intoxicated and endanger everyone on the road. Thankfully no one was seriously injured in this accident. Please stay safe and drive sober this holiday season. #justdontdoit #dontdrinkanddrive #staysafe

Scout just hangin’ out in dispatch...literally! Speaking of dispatch, our awesome Public Safety Police & Fire Dispatchers are a dedicated group of professionals who are faithfully on the other end of the line of non emergency and emergency calls for service 24/7, 365. During this week of Christmas they would like to share the following safety tips with you: *Be sure to lock all of your vehicles , house doors & windows. ... *Treat your garage door remote like a key to your house . Unless you’re parked inside your garage, do not leave your garage remote inside your car. If you must leave it, hide it out of plain view. *If your garage door has a remote lock located on the wall pad, use it nightly or when you’re away. This will disable any garage remote. *Do not advertise on social media that you aren’t home. Whether you’re out of town or just out for the evening wait until you get back home to post. We hope these safety tips will help you stay safe and help keep your home secure, and remember our Chico Police VIPS offer a free Vacation Watch Program should you leave town and need their services. For your convenience we have included the link below. https://chico.ca.us/post/request-vacation-watch

#movember2020 In honor and support of GROWING awareness of men’s health, this month our Chico PD officers and staff will be participating in Movember! The Movember charity is an organization focused on changing the face of men’s health by bringing awareness to and raising funds for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as other health issues that affect men. So if you see our officers and staff sporting a sweet new mustache, well it’s because Chief Madden has issued an In...terim Directive which suspends our current mustache policy for the month of November to show our support for men’s health and to help promote awareness of the cause.
