Max and Lucy lost their home during the North Complex fire. Now, Max and Lucy are left displaced. At Chico Animal Shelter, we like to keep families together. We are in search for a temporary FOSTER home for these two sweet dogs while their family gets back on their feet. Max and Lucy can go into two separate foster homes. If you would like to foster please fill out an application online at chicoanimalshelter.org Also, if you have any questions on how fostering works, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Our email is [email protected]

Having a blind dog sounds so dauntingbut it’s actually easier than you’d think! Here is a write-up from our volunteer Shelly, who is currently fostering Tinkerbell, a super sweet blind dog that needs a home: Tinkerbell is our third blind foster dog, and although they were all very different dogs, they had one thing in common I could not believe how fast they got used to my house and were able to get around without much problem. It took Tink about four days to learn wher...e everything in our house was. That included the food and water bowls, her favorite bed, where I sit when I’m working from home so she could sit close to me, and most importantly, how to get outside so she could go to the bathroom. I was a little worried at first because we have 4 stairs from our deck to the backyard, but she navigated them very slowly, chin close to the ground, so she knew when to step down. Now as you can see from the video, she gets down the steps with no problem at all! When we go for walks, I walk extra slowly when we’re approaching a curb so that she can make her way up or down the curb. Of course she hates being surprised, so when I go to pet her, I snap my fingers as my hand is approaching her so she knows I’m nearby. Her hearing is nearly perfect, and she gets along fine with the other two dogs in the house because she somehow always knows where they are. She would love to be friends with our cat, but since the cat moves through the house so silently, Tink doesn’t have a chance. Tink has also inspired us to have a cleaner house, because when we leave our shoes in the middle of the floor, of course she’ll run into themso we have had a neater house since Tink came to stay! But she is so resilient, even when she does have a spill, she gets right up and is back at it. She loves to play, loves to find toys that I hide for her, and is an all-around amazing dog. She will make such a great pet for the right family! Have you ever had a blind animal? What advice would you offer to someone thinking about adopting a blind pet?
