I need your help! You know the new power plant in Huntington Beach? Well, the original plan for the final design was to create a giant ball wall in the design of a wave.... But now AES is taking a survey on what the community thinks is more aesthetically pleasing for the final look of the power plant. The new option is giant murals on the walls of the power plant. & I WANT TO PAINT THEM! Growing up just behind the power plants, my dad taught me to see the beauty in the power plantsseeing how they have become a landmark for Huntington Beach. When they built the new power plants I was sad to see how it was more of an eyesore. My dream is to paint the power plants with beautiful colors that would bring life to the walls, and help it blend in more with the surrounding landscape. Every time I drive by, to and from the beach, I imagine different compositions I could paint of our local wetlands, coastlines and marine life! Will you do me a favor and TAKE THE SURVEY? We need UNITY. We need LOVE. This is one of my favorite paintings I have made in my body of work focused on family. Last year this painting mysteriously went missing before I was able to finish it! & even worse it was just sold to some dear friends. So I might be re-painting it at a larger scale. It felt so good to plein air paint! It’s been a while. We have been going on lots of nature walks with the kids during lock down, and I have been desperate to paint the beautiful scenes but have been so busy with teaching and finals. But now that I have graduated and this school year is coming to and end I am looking forward to getting out and painting more. Today I was meant to be drawing from a live model and sharing about working in the manner of Michelangelo at the @gettymuseum with other selected artists. This would have been in conjunction with their current Michelangelo exhibition. Of course, due to COVID-19 the museum is closed and it doesn’t look like it will be opening before the close of the exhibition. I was very much looking forward to this experience and sad that it’s not going to work out . However, you can explore the exhibition virtually on the Getty’s website, which I highly recommend. This earth has been an abundant source of inspiration for me. Plein air painting is an act of truly seeing the beauty around me. I paint these works not only to create a beautiful picture, but also to encourage you (the viewer) to slow down, enjoy nature, and to consider how you can make changes in your daily decisions to protect the earth God has blessed us with. @ Planet Earth
