We'll see you tonight!
Torrey Pines on your Wednesday feed! Here’s some photos of the rare Torrey Pines tree on Santa Rosa Island. This is one of the rarest tree species in the world, only found on Santa Rosa Island, and a subspecies in La Jolla, CA. The #srirs is involved in monitoring and researching these trees through a partnership with the National Park Service and the United States Geological Survey.
Can anyone name this beautiful native island species? You can spot them on the Cherry Canyon trail and all over Santa Rosa Island. Not pictured here, but there is also an island endemic only found on Santa Rosa Island. #nativespecies #srirs #botany #paintbrush PC: Brian Whalen
Happy Fisheries Friday! Check out NOAA’s Fisheries page to get the latest news and information regarding fisheries. #NOAA #fisheries PC: NPS Live Ocean Webcams
We might have missed Sea Turtle Week 2020, but in honor of @plasticfreejuly, we are still Celebrating Sea Turtle Conservation (NOAA). The first picture above was taken by @emma_akmakdjian last summer during a week-long marine debris removal trip on Santa Rosa Island. Most of the plastic, fishing gear, and rope removed were used for art projects, like those of @mariaelenazuart, that were featured in an art show last year (second photo).
Motivation Monday! Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July!
It’s hard to beat the summer sunrises on Santa Rosa Island! Happy Summer! #srirs #csuci #santarosaisland #summer #sunrise #islandsunrise #islandlife
The Santa Rosa Island Research Station will remain closed through the end of July. Stay well, friends!
Congrats Grads!
