Our hearts are grieving as we mourn the loss of Luke Makwkakwa, 2019 graduate of the Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership program. Information about virtually attending his memorial service tomorrow and supporting the Makwakwa family can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/lovethemakwakwas Memorial Service - Tuesday, August 11 - 10am (PDT) - Online... We will remember and honor Luke’s life at a formal Memorial Service at the Mission Church of the Nazarene in San Diego. Due to Covid restrictions we can only have 15 people at this service, but we are grateful that we can livestream the service for all who wish to participate digitally. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Luke can be sent to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries - Africa (www.ncm-Africa.org), or to the campaign set up for the family through GoFundMe, LoveTheMakwakwas. Online link for the Memorial Service will be posted on Monday. See more

Dear Doctoral Students and Alumni: Please join me in welcoming Dr. Christina Lunceford to the faculty of the Department of Higher Education at APU! Dr. Lunceford will be joining the department in mid-August as an Associate Professor and will focus her work with the M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development program (CCSD). Dr. Lunceford will become the CCSD Program Director this fall, as Kandy Mink Salas steps into the role of Program Director of the Ed.D. in Higher E...ducation Leadership in preparation for Dennis Sheridan’s retirement in July 2021. Dr. Lunceford is currently a tenured Associate Professor at Bowling Green State University in the Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs, where she also serves as the Interim Department Chair. She has also served as Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion at Bowling Green State University, as well as Assistant to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Development and Support at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. Christy has led international higher education study courses to South Africa and New Zealand for many years and has taught at both the master’s and doctoral levels. She has published on issues of equity and inclusion, as well as preparation of student affairs professionals. Dr. Lunceford received her Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University, her M.S. in Counseling from California State University, Long Beach, and her B.A. in Psychology from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She is actively involved in ACPA, ASHE, and NASPA. We are thrilled that Christy has chosen to join our team! Many thanks to the search committee for their diligent work and to our dean for advocating for this new faculty hire in the midst of a challenging and uncertain higher education environment. We will find ways this fall for you to meet Christy, whether virtually or in person. Meanwhile, celebrate with us! All the best, Laurie Laurie A.
