Cystic Fibrosis Foundation :: San Diego Chapter

Today, the Foundation announced a new research award of up to $2.4 million to Calithera Biosciences Inc. to advance a potential treatment to reduce infections in the lungs of people with cystic fibrosis. Individuals with CF who have chronic infections are at greater risk for worsening, life-threatening lung disease, making infections a top concern of both patients and clinicians.

We dream of the day when there is a cure for everyone with cystic fibrosis. When the CF community unites, anything is possible. Join us November 19 at 8 p.m. EST for our first national Breath of Life Celebration, Together: Curing CF. Members of the CF community from across the country will come together virtually to honor former President and CEO of the Foundation, Preston Campbell, III, MD, enjoy appearances from entertainers like Matt Rogers, Victoria Shaw, and the sINgSPIRE Virtual Choir, and raise funds to help us get one step closer to a cure for cystic fibrosis.

#TheChallengeContinues! Even though our Surf + Turf 65 Roses Challenge is officially over, we still have people completing their challenges so we will continue to highlight people as they share! Shawn Burgwald has committed to the Surf & Turf 65 Roses Challenge by pledging to do a 65-mile solo ride in early November! Shawn’s best friend from high school, Woody Bolin, passed away from CF in 2006 so he and his family have been involved with CFF ever since. They always do CF wa...lks in Woody’s memory but Shawn decided to step up his game starting last year by suiting up in spandex and doing a 60+ mile ride. There are approximately 30,000 people living in the United States with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. Shawn rides for them and he rides for Woody.
