Modesto Fire Department will be doing more controlled burning as part of the Tuolumne River Regional Park fuel mitigation project near the Modesto Airport and the Mitchell Bridge today and through the end of the week. Todays fuels are larger and may produce darker and more dense smoke. There will be smoke visible in the area through the afternoon and into the night. Modesto Fire Department personnel are on scene ensuring the fire doesn't burn anything other than the intended fuels.

Fire Prevention Week 2020! Kitchen fires can be prevented by keeping a lid for the pots & pans nearby. If a grease fire starts you can put the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. If the fire doesn't immediately go out you should call 9-1-1 and leave the building.
Fire Safety Week 2020! Please remind your kids that the kitchen is not a place for playing. If kids need to be on the kitchen, they should stay at least three feet from the stove. To keep kids from accidentally knocking hot pots and pans from the stove try to use the rear burners and keep handles turned toward the back and sides of the stove.
