CNS celebrates National Physical Therapy Month every October to highlight the transformative role therapists play in patients' recovery. In celebration of this observance, CNS physical therapist Kate Menke reminds us to take care of ourselves during this time - which includes daily exercise, eating well, and getting plenty of sleep. Kate also shares one of her most often used motivational quotes, "Remember, any exercise is better than no exercise!"

Centre for Neuro Skills 06.07.2020

In honor of National Physical Therapy Month, CNS Health Fitness Therapist Gerald Pickett shares tips for staying healthy during a quarantine: 1. Nutrition: Stick to cooking your food at home. Pre-prepared, fast-food, or restaurant meals are typically higher in sodium and fat and play a large role in weight gain. For instance, on average, a burger and fries meal from a fast-food restaurant is 1,100 calories. The same meal cooked at home is closer to 600 calories. ... 2. Exercise: Incorporate leisure time activity with an exercise routine. As many of us struggle to adopt a consistent exercise routine, calories burned outside of scheduled exercise becomes more important. Whether it's casual walk around the neighborhood, yard work, or getting extra steps in, every bit counts. A one-mile walk will burn 100 calories and 2,000 steps are in a mile. So, setting a goal of 10,000 steps per day can lead to a 500 calorie deficit, which is equivalent to a 1 pound loss per week!
