News Posted on May 11, 2020 Prize for student-authored environmental law paper goes to Marissa Fuentes '20 UC Davis Law’s environmental law faculty selected Marissa Fuentes ’20 as the recipient of the 2020 Doremus/Anthon Environmental Law Writing Prize for her paper Rising Sea Levels Will Become California’s Greatest Land Use Challenge. The paper contends that the California government should take a more active role in local land-use policy in response to the looming threat... of sea level rise, and explores the feasibility of adopting coastal land-use management techniques used by other nations. Fuentes will be recognized formally at the Environmental Law Certificate ceremony, which will take place at the time of the postponed commencement ceremony for the 2020 class. The $400 Doremus/Anthon prize is awarded annually for the student-authored paper that makes the most significant scholarly contribution based on originality of thought, importance and difficulty of topic, depth of research, and quality of writing and analysis.
