VERY IMPORTANT NEW UPDATE ABOUT CALIFORNIA CCW PERMIT RENEWALS Things at the Orange County Sheriff's Department are constantly changing and evolving. Here we are in November, and OCSD is still processing Renewal Applications that were submitted, last August! Because of this backlog, OCSD has just revised the Renewal Application window from 90 days to 120 days. You now need to start your CCW Permit 120 days BEFORE the Expiration Date, or risk not being able to carry your conce...aled weapons, until OCSD has cleared their backlog. You should take a look at your California CCW Permit RIGHT NOW. If the Expiration Date is anytime in the next 120 days, you should register for the 4-hour CCW Permit Renewal Class, TODAY! OCSD does NOT send out Renewal Notices! If you do not start to renew your California CCW Permit on a timely basis, it will expire and you will need to start the CCW Permit process all over again, which will require taking the 8-hour CCW Permit Instruction class, obtaining new LiveScan fingerprinting, and paying OCSD the New CCW Permit Fee of $114. As stated previously, the California CCW Permit Application process is now completed Online ONLY. OCSD no longer accepts paper applications. Once you have completed the 4-hour CCW Permit Renewal Class, we will walk you through the new Online CCW Permit Application procedure. If nothing has changed since your last Permit Application, chances are that you can use the same Good Cause statement that is currently on file.
