#LoveYourNeighborSD The Loving Hands volunteer group recently collected and donated over 440 bags filled with hygiene items! Being able to practice proper hygiene not only contributes to physical well-being, but also restores dignity to men, women and children who are experiencing homelessness. That’s why handing out hygiene kits is part of our ongoing outreach in the community. #LoveYourNeighborSD It was another great morning at Bread of Life North County Branch of San Diego Rescue Mission for our weekly showers ministry with Humanity Showers! With your support, our team provided 35 SHOWERS this morning to neighbors in need! Organized and run by volunteers, the showers ministry at the Rescue Mission's Bread of Life Center is a unique outreach program that provides homeless neighbors with a hot shower, coffee & donuts, fresh clothing and hygiene i...tems. For people living on the street or in cars, a hot shower is dignifying and helps maintain safe hygiene while experiencing homelessness. The showers ministry also acts as a safe space to establish relationships and offer further program options to overcome homelessness. Shout out to our lead volunteers Jem & Nancy and their teams for serving week in and week out to provide showers for our homeless neighbors in Oceanside! Thanks for your support in fighting homelessness all throughout San Diego County! #SdRescue #LoveYourNeighborSD #HumanityShowers

"The smallest accomplishment goes the longest way and it's really about the climb and helping our students reach their mountain top." Emily Sutton, Job Training Coordinator at SDRM. One major goal for every Mission Academy student is to engage job training and placement, and ultimately to find meaningful, stable work. This is foundational to a holistic recovery program because it enables people experiencing homelessness to create lasting change in their lives, rather than ...just finding temporary solutions. Learn more about how students are prepared to re-enter the workforce successfully in the full blog post, up now on our website here: https://www.sdrescue.org/job-training-program/ Thank YOU for being a part of the transformations happening at SDRM! #SdRescue #LoveYourNeighborSD #JobTraining #OneLifeAtATime

CELEBRATE JAMES, 2020 Mission Academy Graduate Before coming to Mission Academy, James lost the will to live. He never felt like he belonged and turned to drugs to cope with the pain. Upon release from prison, he asked the Lord to change his life and his old habits. Most people say you have to trust in the Lord, but then they don’t give you the time to develop that trust with the Lord. The Rescue Mission gave me that. No matter what was going on around me I had this peace ...and calmness that the Lord would deliver it and would answer my prayers. With his new confidence and openness to interact with others, James is working full-time at a restaurant and is in training to become a sous chef! Thank YOU for supporting faith-based transformation for people like James. Celebrate with us and find out what advice our grads have for new students just beginning their one-year recovery program on our website at SdRescue.org/Grads. #SdRescue #Homelessness #Graduates #Recovery #Restoration #Hope #SanDiego #Celebrate

YOUR SUPPORT is what lifts up people like Tammy "Coming here was a relief... like a weight lifted off my shoulders." For years Tammy was belittled and shamed by her husband. Desperate to feel love, she turned to alcohol to cope with the pain. She was caught in the cycle of abuse and could not see a way out. One day, her husband kicked her out of the house. She was on the streets, with nowhere to turn. Broken and hurting, she took her friend's advice and came to our program.... She knew that she needed to work on her recovery in order to support her kids and grandkids. Now as a graduate of the Rescue Mission Academy () Tammy has found God's strength to break free from the grip of domestic violence and addiction. There are many causes of homelessness in our community, but your critical support makes healing and hope possible! Through the faithful support of our donors, the Rescue Mission Academy can meet the specific needs of individuals and help them overcome homelessness permanently. Thank you for choosing to support this urgent cause in our community! #ThankYOU #SdRescue #DomesticViolenceAwareness #AddictionRecovery #Homelessness #HOPE #SanDiego

San Diego Rescue Mission 10.08.2020

#DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth Allie came to our emergency shelter one afternoon in August. Afraid and suffering from Huntington’s disease, she couldn’t bear the physical abuse from her grandfather anymore. So she left her family’s home in El Cajon with only her purse. She got on the bus and headed for the Rescue Mission. My family wouldn’t give me any of my stuff. I don’t even have any clothes. What’s it like in there? she asked, fear written all over her face. Like yo...u, it breaks our hearts to see women fleeing domestic violence come through our doors daily. During the COVID-19 pandemic there’s been an increase in domestic violence and other shelters have been closed. Women like Allie haven’t had a place to go to feel safe. Now more than ever, your gracious and generous gifts keep the doors open to Nueva Vida Haven, San Diego’s only nightly drop-in, emergency shelter for women and children. Would you give today to help hurting neighbors like Allie in their time of crisis? Thank you for your life-saving support. #SdRescue #Homelessness #Hope #Compassion #DomesticViolenceAwareness

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Just recently, Neelie Gulley from All Peoples Church delivered a powerful sermon for our students on overcoming the shame of our past, based on this poignant verse from Romans 6:23. Every Wednesday and Sunday night, chapel services are held by our local church partners for our students in the Mission Academy! These services are an amazing opportunity for students to experience our... community's compassion and encounter God. Chapel services are often the starting point for students to attend a local church and begin enlisting a strong support network. All Peoples is just one of the many amazing church partners that minister to Mission students week in and week out! We are SO GRATEFUL for our church partners and the ways they impact our students. If your church is interested in partnering with the Rescue Mission to minister to our students overcoming homelessness, we'd love to connect! Please contact Wesley, our Church Engagement Coordinator, at [email protected] for more information! #SdRescue #AllPeoplesChurch #Homelessness #Hope #Chapel #Community #Compassion
