Calvin Crest Outdoor School

Students from Houghton-Kearney and Biola-Pershing had a great time competing in the timed events at Loggers’ Jamboree this week!

Due to the health and safety measures enacted by the Governor of California and the resulting cancellations of schools and guest groups, Calvin Crest will be closed and staff will be furloughed until April 8 or further notice. We will continue to provide updates as this situation evolves. Students from Slater and Lawless had the opportunity to see ladybugs in torpor (an inactive state) on the Giant Sequoia class this week!

We never like to see a great group of students head home, but we sure enjoyed singing I Love the Mountains with students from Kepler Neighborhood School as they got on the bus today!

This time of year, the sun is just starting to rise as students are waking up to get ready for the day. Students from Hamilton enjoyed this sunrise this week!

Some of our students from Wilson in Selma had the opportunity to see deer on the Miwok class this week!

Waving goodbye to students from Heaton and Homan brought an end to our fall season! We have loved welcoming so many students, cabin leaders, and teachers to Calvin Crest since August and we’re looking forward to those planning to come to camp in 2020!

We had snow over Thanksgiving and students from Manchester GATE get to enjoy it this week!

This week, students from Burroughs Elementary were the first to try out our new knot-tying station at Loggers’ Jamboree!

Many of our students take their own photographs throughout the week, and it’s always fun for our staff to look at their pictures and see sixth grade camp through the eyes of a student. We had a great week with students from Lane!

Though we were sad to reschedule a school group due to the Public Safety Power Shutoff this week, we made the best of it and took advantage of the project time to complete our replica Miwok Village! A special thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who have made this rebuild dream a reality in the two years since the Railroad Fire.
