Please meet Elara and Thebe! These little 8-month-old angels were scared at the shelter, but persistence pays off with them after some time they accept pets, and can purr up a storm. They're also pretty good at making those biscuits! In our Forgotten Kitten program, they'll learn to trust humans more readily, and we can't wait to see them blossom! Erica Danger Pet Photographer
This week's #unsunghero is Nancy Van House! Nancy is on her 4th foster cat with Cat Town, and it didn't take us long to notice that she's incredibly good at working with those tough, scared cats those cats that just need an extra portion of patience, love, and time. Knowing that we can place a cat in her home and feel confident that they are getting the absolute best care in their foster home is such a gift. Nancy is also on our medical transport team that helps bring and pick up cats from our vet. And, she'll jump in on last minute tasks when they're needed! Thank you, Nancy! We're so glad some of our harder cats have a spot with you, and we're grateful for all and everything you do for our cats, and our team. Thank you for being a #cattownhero!
Although the Stay Home orders have been lifted, we want to let you know that for the time being, Cat Town will remain open for adopters by appointment, and closed to the public for recreational visits. We recognize that changing our operations to keep up with the back-and-forth from the county is stressful for staff, volunteers, and guests alike, so by staying the course at our most restrictive and safest operations, we hope that more people will feel comfortable at Cat Town and thus it will be easier for us all to help save more cats! Thank you so much for understanding, and we look forward to opening up recreational visits when the time is right!
Olivia and Octavia are dreaming about their happily ever after! These 1-year-old tabbies both with a white lower jaw and a flash of white on their chest love to play! They are cautious at first and need a little extra time to get comfortable, but once they feel settled they are very loving! Octavia will even show her affection with licking and gentle cheek nipping. We think they would do best in an adult home with adopters who have previous cat experience, and understand ...that it takes shy cats like Olivia and Octavia some time to build their confidence. If you're interested in this special pair, reach out to Oakland Animal Services through their Home To Home program, where people who can no longer keep their pets have the opportunity to find a new, loving home, without their pet having to come to the shelter. This program reduces stress on the animals, and gives new owners the chance to learn more about the pet they are adopting directly from their previous owner: https://oas.home-home.org/pet/octavia/ See more
Today is the day!! What day? The official launch day of Cat Town Beer, a limited edition beer crafted in collaboration with Ale Industries, as a part of their Town Beer Collaboration Project. 5.10% of the sales are being donated to Cat Town, meaning that you can now hold your feline friend close, crack open a beer AND save a life all at the same time! The beautiful label was designed by artist Arielle Lehmer, and since supplies are very limited, we advise that you do not wait order your Cat Town Beer today via Ale Industries: https://www.aleindustries.com/cattownbeer Cat Man Of West Oakland
Less than 24 hours after we made Kareem available, this handsome boy has ALREADY been adopted! Kareem used to live in an outdoor colony, from where Feral Change and Cat Man Of West Oakland took him in to treat an abscess. They soon realized that he needed dental work done as well: he had some rotten teeth that needed to be removed. And they also realized something else: this cream tabby male is a super sweet boy, who would be happy in a home with humans! Congrats to Kareem and his new adopter, and a big thanks to Adam and the hard-working crew at Feral Change who knew Kareem was destined for a loving home. Erica Danger Pet Photographer
Meet Forgotten Kitten Ivy! This gorgeous green-eyed Ivy is ready to crawl into your heart and never leave. Read all about her on our website: www.cattownoakland.org/ivy
You'll want to hear this #WhereAreTheyNowWednesday update! Shy Poppy, who was adopted in March, is doing really well. Her adopter shared that "along with watching bunnies, deer, and squirrels daily, Poppy has met a dog! She's very curious with a hint of timidity. We are so proud of her confidence level!" Hooray, Poppy! We're so happy to hear she is thriving.
The holiday season is just getting underway, and we're already in a giving mood with our *** last T-shirt giveaway of the year *** This time you can get your own piece of the Cat Town alien cat legacy mural, created by Michelle Chen (aka Ekke!). In case you missed it, Leila was one of 34 cats that went home in October! This sweet senior stole many a heart with her raspy meow and adoring personality. At 10 years old, we're glad she got that second chance she so deserved. Your support makes these wonderful adoptions happen!
Darla is spreading the news: our #unsunghero this week is Josie B., a dedicated volunteer who comes in every week to help our guests meet all of our cats! She has a special knack for helping our youngest cat whisperers make new feline friends, and she goes above and beyond to keep things clean in the Cat Zone. Josie even visited the Adoption Center for her birthday as a guest herself! Thank you for all you do, Josie! With all of our extra precautions around Covid, it means the world to us to have someone reliable, friendly, and upbeat we can count on to make sure everything is sparkly clean, our cats are happy, and our guests have a great visit.
We have new cats in town, and they are ready to meet you! Come on by this weekend we're open from 10am to 5pm.
It's that time we get to look back at all the cats that were adopted last month! In total we saw 34 cats find homes in October. One of those cats is Tyrah, a 13-year-old senior who lost her guardian, and now found an adopter who loves her temperament and everything about her. See all of our October adoptions on our blog: bit.ly/cattownoctober2020
What a week don't you want to just lay down and take a long nap? Foster cat Kelsey is on the same page. If you're interested in adopting this devoted companion, learn more about 10-year-old Kelsey at cattownoakland.org/kelsey
Do you remember Bart, the three-legged, incredibly charming black cat? He now lives in sunny Southern California with his adopter, and is enjoying every moment of it. His adopter previously fostered Cat Town cats Pippa and Bruno before "foster failing" with Bart. We hope this #WhereAreTheyNowWednesday update brings you some joy today!
We're all drawn to young, playful kittens sometimes, but this month is Adopt a Senior Pet Month the perfect time to bring home an older cat. One that's been around the block, but is just as much in need of home as a young cat. Senior cats like O'Rion, who's guardian was no longer able to care for him, but at 17 years old, we think he still deserves that second chance at finding a loving home! Learn more about our adoptable cats on our website, or reach out to your local shelter if you're interested in adopting a senior pet.
Happy Caturday, and Happy Halloween from little Gaston, the newest member of the Cat Town family! Are you dressing up your cat today?
Peppo and Frou-Frou have already had quite the journey! They were trapped as kittens by our friends at Feral Change, and then they were treated for ringworm at Oakland Animal Services. They are still on the shy and fearful side, which is why we brought them to Cat Town but soon they’ll blossom into their confidence, thanks to our dedicated volunteers. Let's give these two 5-month-old Forgotten Kittens a warm welcome!
When adopting a shy cat, you need a bit of patience. If you have kids, there are even more things to consider! That's why we’ve put together a blog post to help you with the process of bringing home your next feline friend. Read all about shy cats and kids on our website: bit.ly/cats-kids
Rigatoni is adopted! He's an energetic, young boy who needs a lot of playtime and attention, and he's found his perfect match. Congrats Rigatoni! Cat Man Of West Oakland
