Ken, an Army veteran, retired real estate, and financial coaching professional, is a tenacious and compassionate leader who is forever willing to share his financial literacy knowledge with service providers, volunteers, and clients.... News Update! U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced it is reverting to the simpler 2008 version of the naturalization civics test. In December 2020, USCIS implemented a revised naturalization civics test, but on March 1, 2021, USCIS will revert to the 2008 version of the civics test. USCIS determined the new civics test development process, content, testing procedures, and implementation schedule may create unnecessary barriers to the citizenship process. ...Applicants who filed their naturalization applications on or after Dec. 1, 2020, but before March 1, 2021, with an initial examination (interview) before April 19, 2021, will have the choice to either take the 2008 civics test or the 2020 civics test. USCIS will notify applicants who are affected by the change. If the initial interview is scheduled on or after April 19, 2021, applicants will take the 2008 civic test. What does this mean for you? There has never been a better time to participate in Catholic Charities' Virtual Citizenship Classes. Classes are FREE and offered in the evenings on Tuesdays. We're so thrilled about this hard-working team and love getting to spend some time at Bayer Farm and the beautiful park. What a year this has been! Despite it all, our community and Catholic Charities has rallied with compassion to support the most vulnerable among us. Together, we have responded to extraordinary challenges with common purpose, with endurance. There are so many success stories to celebrate! 864 people found permanent housing... 620 DREAMers renewed their DACA status. 454 people became naturalized citizens. Nearly 1,000 people put their lives back together after a disaster. As 2020 comes to a close, we prepare with humility for the challenges of 2021. One of our hopes is that the challenges we have faced will give birth to compassion. Perhaps, just for a moment, we can stop to see through the eyes of those for whom 2020 is just another chapter in a long story of pain. As a community, we can respond by bringing hope to them once again. You give us hope. We are so thankful for every way you share your love across our community. For decades, the Homeless Services Center (a.k.a. 600 Morgan Street) has been a source of dignity, trust, and hope for individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. This unique day facility provides many comforts of #home that we often take for granted like mail delivery, showers, laundry, and even an address to register to vote! 600 Morgan is the first stop on the journey to permanent housing for so many and instrumental in reducing #homelessness in Sonoma Count...y. We want to start the week off with a word of thanks! The pandemic has changed the way we deliver service but thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we’ve been able to address growing needs more efficiently than ever. Volunteers like Michael Michael stepped up to join our #volunteer team just this year, but we can already feel his positive impact across all our food distributions. He serves every week at our 2:00 Palms Inn Food Distribution. For him, he knew he needed to... do something to help those affected by the recent economic downtown. Volunteering is how he feels part of the solution to the challenges affecting our community. In the last year, Catholic Charities has distributed over 415,000 meals through our weekly food distributions. Big things happening in downtown Santa Rosa! Construction has begun in preparation for Caritas Village. This vision, years in the making, is becoming a reality! During this period of building, Catholic Charities is committed to our partnership with the surrounding St. Rose and West End Neighborhoods. Our monthly meetings ensure neighbors are fully in the loop every step of the way!... What is Caritas Village anyway? Caritas Village will consist of two unique yet complementary facilities, Caritas Center and Caritas Homes. Caritas Center is Catholic Charities’ new housing focused service center and emergency family shelter. Over 3,000 people will start their journey to housing at Caritas Center each year, a journey that will be accelerated by participation in Catholic Charities evidence-based housing focused service model. Caritas Homes aims to create 128 apartments of affordable permanent housing, built and managed by Burbank Housing. It will be home to people who represent a cross-section of our community including working singles, and families whose income can’t keep up with the current rental market, vulnerable seniors, and veterans.
