Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was first observed as a federal holiday 35 years ago to honor the birthday of the great civil rights activist. Dr. King’s civil rights work began in 1955 but did not end with his assassination in 1968. His example of nonviolence and fortitude continue to inspire leaders dedicated to ending racial discrimination. Though we still have work to do, we are inspired by Dr. King’s message. Today, in honor of Dr. King and in honor of our great country, we wish you peace, hope and aloha.
