Cordileone released the ...following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s injunction issued late last night in South Bay United Pentecostal Church, et. al striking down California’s blanket ban on indoor worship. This is a very significant step forward for basic rights. This decision makes clear we can now return to worshiping safely indoors without risk of harassment from government officials. As Christians we are members of a Church, which literally means an assembly of people coming together to worship God. This is our identity; it is in our very nature to gather in person to give honor and glory to God. And especially as Catholics we know that our worship cannot be livestreamed: there is no way to give Communion, or any of the other sacraments via the internet. That is why at Christmas I gave pastors permission to bring congregations indoors under the same conditions permitted indoor retail, if the weather or safety conditions required it. The Supreme Court has now made it very clear to California government that permitting this is a fundamental right and the law of the land. I trust and hope our state officials will appreciate the care we’ve taken all throughout this crisis to protect the public health with masks, social distancing and other reasonable measures. I want to thank all those who have worked tirelessly to affirm that the worship of God is the most essential service of all, especially the leaders of South Bay and Harvest Rock churches. I’d like also to thank warmly those Catholics who joined me in standing up against abuses of power by signing the petition at FreeTheMass.com. This is a breath of fresh air in dark times. I’m grateful to God and to the Founders who gave us the shining light of the Constitution of the United States. May God bless America. Holy Year of Saint Joseph December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021

PRAYER FOR THE JOURNEY Lord Jesus, before you were born, you were carried for nine months in your mother’s womb.... The last part of that time was a difficult journey. You travelled with Mary and Joseph from your home town of Nazareth to the small village of Bethlehem, near Jerusalem. Even in the womb you felt their love. They took great care of you and stopped somewhere each night. Those who welcomed them were blessed by their presence, blessed by God. Bless us as we join in that journey, in our own time, in our own way. We welcome Mary, Joseph and Jesus into our home, into our hearts. Give us joy when Christmas comes again, that Jesus is born, God with us, once in Bethlehem, and now into our own world. Help us to welcome him with love. Amen.

The two official photographs of 1923 and 1931 show the modification made on the face of the Virgin between these two years. Fr. José Luis de Urrutia writes: The image has been retouched several times. It is enough to compare high quality photographs that were made in 1923, with others commissioned by the ecclesiastical authority in 1930: the face was modified, that of 1923 was clearer; they have marred it by adding a jowl, shading the eyes, which now seem to be exorbitant; lengthening the nose, painting red lips, now large and disproportionate, darkening her hair and leaving it as stiff, smoothing the profile of the face, which has lost its exquisite contour. This is the Original Face photographed by Manuel Ramos in 1923 before having it removed due to threats to have it destroyed by the President Calles and his persecution against the Catholic Church in Mexico. Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption Today’s Gospel starts with this sentence, The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech. The Pharisees and Herodians had one thing in common: they both wanted to discredit Jesus before the large crowds that followed him. And so, it is today that modern day political Pharisees and Herodians are attempting to entrap the Church in speech and discredit the Gospel of Jesus Christ that inspires that speech. On May 28, 1957 the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev declared We can’t expect the American people to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have communism. We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within. He went on to say. We will take America without firing a shot ... we will bury you! We are now on precipice of his prediction. Totalitarianism is a concept for a political system or form of government that prohibits opposition parties, restricts individual opposition to the state and its claims, and exercises an extremely high degree of control over public and private life. It is regarded as the most extreme and complete form of authoritarianism. In totalitarian states, political power has often been held by Political Power Elites who employ propaganda by their secular controlled mass media. Polls indicate that the low popularity of journalism in America is directly correlated to a media that is seen as contributing to partisan rhetoric. It turns out the ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and Big Tech companies like Facebook and Twitter are motivated by political agendas, unending commentaries designed to indoctrinate and spin masters that seek to neutralize and eradicate all that is truth including the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Media plots how they might entrap Jesus again---and all who follow him. There is an active campaign to de-Christianize America. In our America today 65 million Catholics face intentional prohibition of the free exercise of the freedom of religion, regardless of constitutional protections of the First Amendment, pre-meditated censorship on social networks, heightened undercover surveillance of our churches, limited freedom of movement and widespread use of state authority to restrict Christianity in the public square. Other aspects of a totalitarian regime include the use of violent assaults on Sacred Images of Our Lord, the Blessed Mother and the Saints all the while promoting state sponsored atheism that seeks to replace faith-based institutions with a socialist structures as the sole moral voice in society. Historian Robert Conquest describes a totalitarian state as one which recognizes no limit on its authority in any sphere of public or private life and it extends that authority to whatever length is feasible. Such is the challenge that we face during this election season. Totalitarianism was first developed in the 1920s by both Weimar Jurist and later Nazi academic Carl Schmitt and concurrently the Italian fascists. Italian Fascist Benito Mussolini once proclaimed: "Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state." Burning American cities, mob violence in the name of peaceful protest, murder and mayhem and the destruction of all things Christian are indications that a venerable American political party has been infiltrated and co-opted by extremist political parasites who wish to reap power, prestige, money and extract revenge. English theologian John Henry Newman instructed long ago that the future of morality is dependent on the strength of our individual and collective conscience, which in turn, is dependent on the strength of our belief in God. If Newman is correct, then the confrontation of secularism today will require a two-step process first, a strengthening of belief in God and Jesus Christ, and then a concerted effort to restore the weakened ideas of deadly sins, virtues, and principles which are the basis for the formation of conscience. Failure to respond to this challenge will lead to an even more rapid decline in religion and moral standards a pessimistic scenario at best for the nation and a threat to the very foundations of the universal church. The Church must remind silent no longer in the midst of blatant discrimination and oppression. As we approach the elections this year, we must remind ourselves of the five non-negotiables for voting for a particular candidate or a particular issue. 1. Abortion which is the intentional and direct killing of an innocent human being, and therefore a form of homicide. The unborn child is always an innocent party, and no law may permit the taking of his life. Even when a child is conceived through rape or incest, the fault is not the child's s, who should not suffer death for others' sins. 2. Euthanasia: Often disguised by the name "mercy killing;' euthanasia is also a form of homicide. No person has a right to take his own life, and no one has the right to take the life of any innocent person. In euthanasia, the ill or elderly and people with life threatening illnesses are killed, by action or omission. 3. Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Human embryos are human beings. "Respect for the dignity of the human being excludes all experimental manipulation or exploitation of the human embryo". Recent scientific advances show that medical treatments that researchers hope to develop from experimentation on embryonic stem cells can often be developed by using adult stem cells instead. 4. Human Cloning: "Attempts ... for obtaining a human being without any connection with human sexuality through ‘twin fission,’ cloning, or parthenogenesis are to be considered contrary to the moral law, since they are in opposition to the dignity both of human procreation and of the conjugal union. Human cloning also involves abortion because the "rejected" or "unsuccessful" embryonic clones are destroyed, yet each clone is a human being. 5. The protection of the Sacrament of Marriage. Marriage was created for a man and a woman who are open to life to express to each other the full self-giving and unity of the sacrament and each other. The Sacrament of Marriage is a lasting commitment of a man and a woman to a lifelong partnership, established for the good of each other and the procreation of their children. And finally, we go back to Jesus who knew and understood that Judas was a traitor who ate and prayed at table with him. Some politicians may call themselves Catholic publicly but privately they serve the Father of Lies who wishes to destroy the way, the truth and the life of Jesus in this world. Let us remember the words of Jesus at the Last Supper: Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me. Jesus answered, It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it. So, he dipped the morsel and took it and handed it to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot. After he took the morsel, Satan entered him. So, Jesus said to him, What you are going to do, do quickly. If we use our God given gifts of our free will and intellect to choose the death of the unborn, the killing of the elderly and the infirmed, replace the role of the Eternal Father the Creator by supporting Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Human Cloning and we support efforts to break the Seal of the Sacrament of Matrimony by voting for candidates for public office that support these positions we become collaborators and agents of the one who entered into Judas when he took the morsel from the hand of Jesus which exposed his act of betrayal. As we vote, May the Strength of God pilot us. May the Power of God preserve us. May the Wisdom of God instruct us. May the Hand of God protect us. May the Way of God direct us. May the Shield of God defend us. May the Host of God guard us Against the snares of the evil ones and the Against temptations of the world.
