The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. ~Chinese Proverb I didn’t commit to yoga practice until 2015. ... That’s when I planted my seed. I didn’t dig up the seed every day to see if it was growing- Instead, I watered it with regular practice and made sure it had sunlight and contemplation. Five years later, the roots are so deep that I’m able to bend and not break. The branches have grown farther and wider- I can be a nest for some and shade for others, All the while, growing closer to the Light. Like the tree, my leaves change and transform and eventually the dead leaves drop. The nourishment of my practice digs deeply and rises tall. Especially in times of intense joy and intense sorrow; It’s like the impact of such pronounced emotions awakens in me present-moment-awareness. Returning to each present moment, with mindfulness, brings a certain sense of calm to my heart. When things feel heavy, the Now is a comfort, because it’s such an obvious reminder of impermanence. When I’m immersed in bliss, the Now is such a potent moment to relish in.
