Pandemic Parody Historic note: Bastille Day is a French national holiday celebrated on July 14 to mark the anniversary of the storming of a grand fortress infamous for holding political prisoners. In the tradition of Bastille Day, residents of Casa Sandoval held a tongue-in-cheek Storming of the Castle. Represented by pirate LoriAnn (Life Enrichment Coordinator), the following Resident Demands were presented, inspired by our own nation’s sacred Bill of Rights. Readers ...will be glad to know these demands were instantly metand heartily endorsed by all. But seriouslywe are inexpressibly grateful for how trusting and agreeable everyone has been in this upside-down COVID world. Right to assemble in small groups of 10. Right to walk around in building with masks on. Right to see visitors through the looking glass. Right to speak to Family on the phone. Right to have food brought to our apartments. Right to sit in sunshine on patio. Right to exercise on equipment at leisure. Right to have fresh liquid provided daily. Right to access clean laundry facilities. Right to view news and information at will.

Despite the hardship they cause, major disruptions like COVID-19 give rise to innovation. MorningStar’s senior communities have always been purpose-built to protect. Paul Gozon, Executive Director of Casa Sandoval by MorningStar, celebrated his birthday with a few caveats. The festivities were subjected to quarantine motifwhich meant no one else was invited. Kidding! His team showed their affection for this beloved leader from a safe and masked distance.

A big thank you to one of our resident's family members, Alison! She donated fresh flower bouquets to all of our residents just to spread some cheer. She certainly accomplished just that. Like her sign says, "Kindness Matters!"

We enli...sted every resource at our disposal, innovating as we went, to quickly build strong lines of defense proportional to the threat across every aspect of our operations. I have never been prouder of my team’s coordinated response to an outsized challenge. A spirit came over usa determination to fight backwith every one of our 1,705 team members taking part as combatants. As the nation now backs out of quarantine slowly, MorningStar communities are judiciously following suit in keeping with their respective state’s phasing and pacing.
