Vehicle over the side at Bates Road/HWY 101 in Carpinteria: On 03/16/21 at 4:20 AM, three Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Units responded with CHP and AMR to a reported vehicle over the side near Bates Road and Highway 101. The vehicle was traveling southbound 101, left the highway and rolled down the embankment, where it came to rest on the far side of the railroad tracks. Air bags deployed, and the sole occupant was able to self-extricate and walk back up to the highway. The male in his 20's was treated by department paramedics and transported to Cottage Hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time, and CHP is conducting an investigation. Train traffic was paused as the extent of damage to the tracks was assessed. Contact Rob Rappaport (310) 806-8057 or BC Gallagher (530) 386-2654.
After a very competitive testing process, we would like to congratulate newly promoted Fire Engineer Chas Donner. Chas came to our agency in April of 2018 after working as a paramedic for AMR for several years. We are very proud of you Chas!
On this day 19 years ago, 9/11 forever changed the way we think and live. We honor those who lost their lives and pray for their families. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
Jul 2, 2020 HEALTH OFFICER ORDER ISSUED TO CLOSE BEACHES IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY FOR FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND Gatherings Strictly Prohibited to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 (SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) ... Santa Barbara County Health Officer, Dr. Henning Ansorg has issued a health officer order requiring all beaches to be closed to the public during the July 4th weekend. This order is effective from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 and continuing until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2020. This order is being issued in response to Santa Barbara County not meeting the threshold criteria for Elevated Disease Transmission, Increasing Hospitalization, and Limited Hospital Capacity for the past 16 days as noted in the County Monitoring Metrics. The temporary closure of all beaches is necessary due to the anticipated high volume of people at our beaches during the July 4th weekend, which will impede the practice of safe and necessary social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County, said Dr. Henning Ansorg. The landscape for this upcoming weekend has changed in the past few days as more and more counties have decided to close their beaches. This raised significant concern for the impacts to our local community. More information about the COVID-19 response locally, visit www.publichealthsbc.org or call the County Call Center at 1(833) 688 5551.
Remembering the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots killed in the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire Tuesday marks the seventh anniversary of the wildfire that killed most of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. YARNELL, Ariz. On June 30, 2013, the small town of Yarnell, Arizona, was under evacuation as a wildfire ravaged the nearby wilderness.... A 20-man crew, the Granite Mountain Hotshots, were on the frontlines of the fire that was ignited by lightning two days earlier. Strong winds and dry conditions fueled the fire burning about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix. The fire spread quickly and erratically. The hotshots were overrun by the intense flames. Trapped, they deployed their fire shelters. Only one of those men came back alive: 21-year-old Brendan McDonough. The fire burned about 8,400 acres. And while it was not the largest fire in Arizona's history, it is considered one of the deadliest. You can watch the Yarnell Remembrance Event starting at 4:30 p.m. You can find more resources at YarnellFire.org and PeeplesValleyFire.org.
