The fire on Jarvis Road is contained at 3/4 acre. The flames were first reported just before 10am northeast of Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz County. CAL FIRE CZU sent a full assignment response, including aircraft, engines, and a dozer, with Scotts Valley Fire assisting. Two loaded air tankers and a helicopter circled the fire, but it was determined that the flames were surrounded by roads, which served as a natural fire break, so they did not actually drop retardant or water. The fire was contained by firefighters on the ground within about a half hour. The flames were burning in grass and brush. The cause is under investigation, and there were no injuries. This is video of the Vine Fire, which was contained to 1/4 acre on Monday, October 19, 2020. It was burning in heavy timber near Scotts Valley. When a 911 call comes in, our communications operators use Alert Wildfire cameras (among many other tools) to pinpoint the location of the smoke column. This fire was not in the CZU Lightning Complex burn area. We launched an aggressive air attack with 2 tankers and 1 helicopter, which you can see in the video. There were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
