Carpenters Local 409 Los Angeles

The average carpenter works between 30 and 40 years. During that time we usually start having issues with out physical health. Tendonitis, bad knees, back problems and arthritis are the most common issues most of us have. At one point we all start thing of retirement with all this pain or discomfort. One of the biggest issues is when we retire we dont make the income we do when working. So are retirement should be very important to everyone of you. At the one point we had ...a $200.00 pension credit and once the market dropped out the credit went to $100.00 pension credit. At one point there was talk that the region council that eventually we would get our $200.00 credit back. At this point we need to start asking the questions as to when we will get our credit back and why is it taking the time it going to take. Now some people have said this is a topic that creates dissention but I say no we need to know. When and if we do have this meeting what are your questions brothers and sisters. See more

As a Union Carpenter of some years I've seen people (managment) come and people go. Everyone of them claim the same thing, Change, but a what cost Brothers and Sisters. In this day and age we need know what ours for a fact and we need people to keep their word. In the next few weeks two meetings will be held to discuss our retirement plan and how monies have been spent. This is your future we will be discussing so keep an eye on Southern California Union Carpenter's page t...o see the date and time for one of these meeting either at Sylmar training center or Ontario training center. We are Carpenter and as such it is what we do, we dont shy away from questions that may make someone feel uncomfortable. This is our union and as such we need to keep it our union and the only way we do that is by making those whom we have elected held accountable for their actions.

Why are we suddenly changing Local Numbers, why was there no explanation from our Reps or Council?

Working tons of OT, but I hear there was some fireworks at the JLP meeting. Part of being a union carpenter is listening to all sides and deciding for yourself what's true and who's BSing you. Not their truth, the truth some would tell you because it's what they think you will believe. Keep asking questions and dont let anyone lie to you regardless of who they are, the truth is out there and it has a paper trail a mile long. This is our union, ours to make strong or to let ...someone take from us. Some people will believe your sheep and believe anything they tell you. Some will use threats to keep control and some will use trumped up excuses to take your money or force you to do something you may not want to do. OK Carpenters this upcoming meeting is very important so please be on time and we will see you a week from tomorrow at the Whittier Training center at 7pm.

You should have all received this in the mail. I hear so many people say they have no say and only complain about our union. If you don't attend meeting and especially if you don't vote in Union and Political elections you have no reason to complain. Remember it's easy to sit back and criticize and yes meetings can be at time monotonous but it's only one evening a month. We do have food but since we are in a state funded apprenticeship we cannot have alcohol on the premises.... So please don't make us ask you to leave because of beer and yeah we have to ask you to leave or be kicked off the property ourselves. We have about 4000 member in local 409 and only about 130 on the average show up for the meetings only 3 to 4 percent make decisions for you and to be honest that's pathetic people. We want you to come, we want to hear what you wave to say. If you have an idea we wanna hear it and if it's within the rules and bylaws we can maybe add some new items to meeting. So please show up and Vote and try to make it to some meeting. Right now we are the largest local but have one of the lowest attendances for meeting. The council will give us more funding for stuff if we have higher numbers at meetings. See more

This is a update about Donny Rowe this message was sent to a brother to spread to all brothers & sisters I just got into a bad motorcycle accident on the 20th. I almost didn't make it. They wanted to amputate my right leg. But my dad didn't wanna give up. So now we're in sdsu hillcrest. It's gonna be a long long rode of recovery and therapy. Hoping they can save my leg. Please spread this around to our brothers and sisters about awareness. I wouldn't wish this upon anybody. I'm staying strong brother much love to everyone.
