In Memory of Deputy Constable Anthony Bryan Couts EOW: October 25, 1914 On October 25, 1914, Anthony Bryan Couts wedding day lay only days away. He intended to give up his job as a deputy constable before he exchanged vows with his fiancée, Corina Rogers, and begin a new career which would permit him to better support the two of them. But, on the eve of what was to be his last day in law enforcement, twenty-three-year-old Deputy Constable Anthony Brian Couts agreed to perform...Continue reading

In Memory of Deputies Roy A. Chester and James D. McSweeney EOW: October 24, 1988 In late October 1988, Deputies Chester and McSweeney were working as part of a multi-jurisdictional drug intervention task force called Operation Border Ranger. On the evening of October 24, 1988, they were aboard a UH-1H Army National Guard helicopter investigating a car parked on a remote access road off Interstate 8 in the Mountain Springs Grade area about 70 miles east of San Diego.... As the helicopter descended, it apparently struck a power line between two hilltops causing it to crash and explode into the side of a mountain. The three-member National Guard crew, a sergeant from Imperial County Sheriff's Department, a deputy from the Orange County Sheriff's Department and a deputy from the Riverside County Department also died in the crash. Deputy Chester, 41, was survived by his wife, Marilyn, a 19-year-old daughter and twin 17-year-old sons. Deputy McSweeney, 43, was divorced with no children. Both men served with the LASD for 12 years. Sources: Los Angeles, Times, San Diego Union Tribune, Orange County Register, LASD, John Stanley
In Memory of Deputy Randy J. Hamson EOW: October 24, 2008 Shortly after midnight on August 16, 2004, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Randy J. Hamson conducted a follow-up investigation to an earlier hit-and-run traffic accident on Sierra Highway, south of Soledad Canyon Road. As Hamson surveyed the scene, he observed a car approaching the area without headlights. As he stepped out into the roadway and motioned with his flashlight toward the driver of the vehicle..., another car struck him. The driver of this vehicle stopped and said he never saw Deputy Hamson. This driver was not held nor cited. Deputy Hamson, 44, suffered head injuries and numerous broken bones. He lapsed into a coma from which he never recovered. On October 24, 2008, he succumbed to his injuries. Randy Hamson joined the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on March 23, 1999. After completing his first assignment working the Pitchess Detention Center East Facility Jail, he transferred to Santa Clarita Valley Station in April 2003. He was survived by his wife, Cindy; his sons, Nicholas and Joshua; his stepsons, Matt and Shaun; his stepdaughter, Holly; his parents, Carolyn and Jim; and his brothers, Tim and Michael. In Memory of Sergeant Alfonso Lopez EOW: October 24, 2016 On October 24, 2016, at approximately 0520 hours, LASD deputies from Compton Station initiated a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Sergeant Alfonso Al Lopez, assigned as the day shift field sergeant, heard the call of the pursuit go out as he dressed in the locker room. He hastily ran to his patrol vehicle donning his personal tennis shoes, which he could slip on faster than his boots.... As Sergeant Lopez began to drive out of the parking lot, the pursuit was cancelled. He then made a right turn onto Wilmington Avenue, apparently en route to the termination point of the pursuit to debrief the deputies. Mere moments after he completed his turn onto Wilmington Avenue, he apparently suffered a massive heart attack. Three local residents saw him in distress behind the wheel of his car and then witnessed his vehicle lose speed as he apparently took his foot off the accelerator. The car coasted to a stop against a fence at the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Myrrh Street a block from the station. The vehicle impacted the fence at such a low speed the airbags did not deploy. The three women who witnessed Sergeant Lopez’s distress and the crash ran to Compton Station to report what they saw. Compton Station personnel arrived minutes later and found Sergeant Lopez in full arrest. He was taken to nearby St. Francis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 0600 hours. Al Lopez, 47, was survived by his wife, Sheryl, and two adult children. Sources: Los Angeles Daily News, KTLA, Los Angeles County Coroner, LASD, John Stanley
We join our friends throughout all essential public safety services in encouraging you to "VOTE NO on MEASURE J" This is a quickly written, poorly thought out i...dea that will have a very serious negative impact on the community and tie the hands of future leaders for decades. No one has any specific idea on how the money will be allocated, but it is clear that everyone will pay a very painful price for its implementation. See more
Great job by a Lomita deputy.
Voters give the county hundreds of millions of dollars to solve homelessness. The crisis has only gotten worse.

The deputies responded to the suspect's last se...en location of the 4500 block of Irwindale Ave in the unincorporated area of Covina. Thanks to the hard work of our deputies, the suspect was arrested, the handgun was recovered and our victim received treatment for his injuries. This is why we always ask you to keep an eye out for suspicious persons in your neighborhood. If you see something, say something . We are always here to help! : Chris Miller #lasd #sandimassheriff
