It's raining! Finally!
Here's what our orchard looks like just a few weeks away from bloom!
We're always looking for ways we can improve the whole health of our orchard! This year we spread biochar--a carbon-stable, nutrient rich, charcoal-like substance--on 2 test rows in our orchard. In short, we are trying out biochar because it has been historically proven to improve soil structure by increasing the soil's capacity to hold water, decreasing soil acidity, and increasing microbial activities, to name just a few of its benefits. Check out our last newsletter for more information on biochar!
We are Bee Friendly Farming certified! This means we work hard to care for our golden-and-black pollinators! Criteria that our farm met to earn this certification involved the fact that we provide a cover crop for bees, a hedgerow of native plants (which provides an expanded forage season, as well as a natural habitat), we have an Integrated Pest Management plan, and we do not use any synthetic chemicals on our farm. Stay tuned for our next newsletter to learn more about this certification!
Check out our latest newsletter! Alicia just finished it and it is now up for your reading pleasure. Learn what "biochar" is and why we are using it in our orchard, and discover the unique differences in the varieties of almonds we provide. http://chorganicalmonds.com/News/Newsletter%20Q3%202020.pdf
