California Partnership to End Domestic Violence 14.05.2021

César Chávez dedicated his life to la lucha, the struggle, organizing against exploitative policies and practices. Under the United Farm Workers’ Delano Grape Strike, Latinx growers demanded better pay, safer conditions, and healthcare. And after five years of being in la lucha, they won. We continue to learn from the United Farm Worker’s movement, and make important connections to economic justice as a strategy for preventing violence. Alejandra Aguilar, Preventionist at the... Partnership, is working together with our partners at the California Work & Family Coalition, and several of their member organizations, to spread awareness of how having access to paid family leave and other related benefits helps strengthen economic independence, while reducing the risk of domestic violence, especially among low wage earners & immigrant workers. In partnership with several organizations and businesses across the state, we are building bridges, fostering collaborative, cross-sector, prevention efforts, reaching workers everywhere. You're invited! Join us on April 20th from 3:30-5 p.m. to view inspiring digital stories during the Youth in the Lead Showcase: https://cpedv.memberclicks.net/783705841 Earlier this year, youth across California went through a deeply introspective storytelling workshop series facilitated by StoryCenter and hosted by the Partnership. What resulted was a number of profound digital narratives of trauma and resilience, self-discovery, activism, and finding their voices while supported by Trusted Adults. We invite you to join us for a showcase of four of these stories, created by Deyanira Vargas, Abraham Castillo, Marissa Williams, and Marcella Maggioa Trusted Adult ally who created her own story alongside youth, and will join us as the host for this virtual event.

This is a time to follow the lead of Native organizers, who have advanced critical public policies to address the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. #MMIWGActionNow #NoMoreStolenSisters #MMIWG

Kellie Schmitt at the Center for Health Journalism covered a recent discussion of the Blue Shield Foundation & PerryUndem Survey: Californians Experiences with COVID-19, Equity, and Domestic Violence. One notable finding included broad bipartisan support for alternatives to jail for people who cause domestic violence. Our Director of Programs, Jacquie Marroquin, was quoted saying, It’s the impact of violence and abuse that reverberates through the community, through gener...ationsThat healing process takes a lot longer than crisis intervention. There is long-term healing we don’t often hear about. We thank the Blue Shield Foundation for this research and the Center for Health Journalism and Kellie Schmitt for reporting on the importance of holistic solutions for survivors. https://centerforhealthjournalism.org//pandemic-changing-h
