Summers here.... So are the Ants!! Here are some suggestions to help prevent a severe Argentine Ant infestations: 1. Keep counters, stove and sinks clear and free of empty used dishes or pans. Wipe down crumbs after the kids make themselves meals and make sure they pick up any crumbs or food that they drop on the ground inside or out. 2. Empty and wash out all soda/beer cans before putting them in the recycle container. Make sure the container is kept fairly clean and that... it is not to close to the home. 3. Make sure that the kids keep all candy out of there room and drawers, even sealed candy as the ants can get into the packages. Keep their rooms clear of all candy wrappers. 4. If a trail of ants does make it into the home or yard then find the target o the trail and remove it right away. Don't just spray the ants as other will try to find the target again. 5. Be careful of treating around the home yourself. Some products that the consumer can buy are what is called a repellent. Repellents are not that bad if you are SURE that you have NO infestations in the house. The problem is that once the ants have made it inside your house and a repellent chemical is used the ants will set up colonies within the house because now they can not leave the way they got in. At the time ant colonies set up shop in your home inside walls, attics, under sinks etc-etc they become very difficult to control. Professional Pest Companies such as ours use a non-repellent material to allow the ants to walk on the material and take it back to the colonies to kill off the remainder of the colony. Be careful of Total Green solutions also as the are more repellent than anything else. Green Products are great as a preventive treatment but will cause more trouble than good when trying to control a heavy infestation. 6. Keep harborage areas down, such as piles of debris and the like in your yard. Areas of tall grass, weeds, and dirt up against the home should be kept down. The less areas that a colony can hide the better off your home is. 7. Call a pest Professional for any questions, most of us are glad to answer any questions to help you keep the infestations down at your home and surroundings.
