Cancer Cafe Performance 10.11.2020

TheMarsh.org will spotlight the live recording of Welcome to the Cancer Cafe on Saturday, July 25th 7:30 PM, PDT. My original theatrical run in March 2020 was postponed in response to COVID-19. I thought I’d have to put it to bed, but now The Marsh has generously created a platform that not only enables you to view my recorded performance, but also enables us to participate together in a Q&A session to follow! To view and/or participate, visit https://themarsh.org//solo-pe...rformer-spotlight-welcome-to/. This show transports the audience into the world of having to make life-altering decisions. In this timely way that is applicable to all of us as we face challenging decisions about risk, life, health, and death. No longer limited by geography, I am so excited about the potential to connect across the globe! Let’s make this part of establishing an international creative response to the challenges we go through everyday. Looking forward to meeting you on the 25th! ~With love, Judith

Welcome to the Cancer Cafe Postponed It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to postpone my performance of Welcome To The Cancer Cafe. I pray that I get to perform this powerful show that is rippling through our community in a good way. It is too soon to even consider an alternative date, but the Marsh has promised me priority when I am ready to schedule again. The Marsh will allow you to use your ticket for another show or for this show when it returns. Or you can donat...e the price as a tax-deductible contribution (for the Marsh). Please contact them at the box-office by phone at 415-282-3055 Mon-Fri 1-4pm or by email at [email protected] to let them know of your preference. At first I decided to cancel as a civic dutyto ‘flatten the curve’ and do my part to spread out demand on hospitals by severely limiting human contact. I was in denial about my own vulnerability of being immunocompromised. Then I received a number of emails from my Myeloma friends. They were all hunkering down and staying inside. I allowed myself to feel and remember the experience of catching a virus during my transplant that made it incredibly difficult to breathe. I saw Chaya’s face when she remembered what it was like to listen to me day and night struggling to breathe. And I knew I had to skew the odds as best as anyone could to hopefully come through this well. Now I know, more clearly than ever, that truth and vulnerability are what give me strength and resilience! The outpouring of support was larger and broader than I had fantasized. We were sold out for the first show and had a kick ass post show discussion. The other shows were nearly sold out too. CMCC and WCRC are both committed to supporting the shows when they return. A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU! Sending light and centeredness as we are being asked to make decisions on our feet. Remember your intuition is there for you too! Post show gathering with friends after a very long day of last minute light changes, washing down seats with disinfectants and performing. A great group met me for mexican food and good discussion. Still thinking this may be the ultimate challenge of whether to finish my run or stay cloistered in my home. One thing I learned from Cancer, do not get ahead of the situation. Take or make choices for each day so we will see how things go by Saturday this week. PS was totally sold... out and the after talk back was beyond powerful. There are 2 more performances coming up, March 15th and 22nd, benefitting #CharlotteMaxwellClinic, and the #WomensCancerResourceCenter. Important Notice about the Show We want to acknowledge these uncertain times. As of Saturday March 7th, the Marsh in Berkeley remains open. They are stepping up their disinfecting and cleaning. Judith is very excited to bring you her show tomorrow, but we understand if you decide to stay home. Now is the time to find your center and make decisions in an ever-changing atmosphere (kinda like what Judith talks about in the show). We are delighted that those of you who bought ti...ckets are supporting Judith and Camp Kesem. If you decide not to attend, you can still 'donate' the price of the ticket so Camp Kesem benefits from the production. From the Marsh "In the midst of this Coronavirus, we recommend that you follow the Center for Disease Control's COVID-19 prevention advice if you are coming to the theater. To further support prevention, if you are sick, we encourage you to stay at home, please contact us in the box office at 415-282-3055 Mon - Fri 1-4pm or email us at [email protected] if you wish to exchange your tickets to another date. The Marsh relies on ticket sales and your support to be sustainable."

Here’s my love Chaya and I at a 60th bday party. It was 2 years into getting a #multiplemyeloma diagnosis and I was quite stoned on #chemo but made an appearance. When I was diagnosed, I wanted to find an #oncologist to work with, someone I thought would help guide me to make these #lifeanddeath treatment choices. I didn’t yet understand that there are NO right answers, only guidelines for #bestpractices that are essentially based on data driven from trials that the pharmaceu...tical companies were interested in funding. I searched for my intuition, but fear added cloudiness. For my partner Chaya and I, it was all incredibly challenging, continues to be, and I am grateful for her partnership and love. My show Welcome To the Cancer Cafe, opens THIS Sunday, March 8, 2-3 pm. Proceeds will be donated to Camp Kesem Berkeley. The carousel is the BEST place for making decisions. I learned this young, growing up going to #ConeyIsland often. Because of this, Coney Island stories are woven into my show. My diagnosis meant making a whole series of high-stakes decisions, amid fear and confusion. Welcome To the Cancer Cafe, my one-woman show opens this Sunday, March 8, 2-3 pm. Proceeds will be donated to #CampKesemBerkeley One of many chapters of a wider organization that supports children through a...nd beyond a parent’s cancer. My mom Bernice used to work at #ConeyIsland #amusementpark. So when we would visit together, she would talk to kids doing what she had to do every day of summer vacation growing up. It was called working the #bowery. My mom is a big part of my #soloperformance Welcome To the Cancer Cafe. The first of 3 shows is this Sunday from 2-3pm. There are three shows this month (3/8, 3/15, 3/22) from 2-3pm, with a 20min post-show discussion with different providers. Also each show ...is donating proceeds to #CampKesemBerkeley, the #CharlotteMaxwellClinic, and the #WomensCancerResourceCenter.
