WOMEN IN BUSINESS MAVEN OF THE MONTH! I have been with the American Cancer Society almost 3 years now and got involved with the Chamber about 2 years ago. However, the American Cancer Society has been involved with the Chamber since 1995! I joined the Chamber as a representative of the American Cancer Society in hopes to be able to provide information about our programs and services, the importance of research, volunteer opportunities and ways to participate in special events.... I also hope to be a resource for those looking for information about cancer diagnosis, cancer prevention and overall cancer facts. I have greatly enjoyed networking with and supporting other Chamber members and their businesses. The Mission of the American Cancer Society is to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for world without cancer. This year, the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Research program celebrates 75 years of commitment to progress in the fight against cancer. Our 24/7 helpline offers support for people dealing with cancer. We offer rides to treatment and lodging for patients traveling far for treatment. Breast cancer patients are not alone with our Reach to Recovery program, that offers one-to-one breast cancer support with another breast cancer survivor. My role at the American Cancer Society is very important to me I am very passionate about my work and my contribution to our Mission. Like so many of us, I have also been affected by this horrible disease. I lost my dad to lung cancer in 2013. He never smoked and was an avid cyclist. My role has given me the opportunity to raise awareness, raise critical funds, and to help prevent future deaths to cancer. In addition to my efforts with ACS, I am a busy mom to a very active 12 year old son, Lowen. I enjoy running, cycling, tennis and love being active outdoors. We love to travel, explore new places and always looking for the next adventure. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team at Dignity Health St. John’s Regional Medical Center celebrated on Saturday, October 17th, the graduation of Victoria Magaña, the first patient in the brand new NICU, as she was released home to her family. For the special day, baby Victoria wore a graduation cap and was carried out of the unit as her care team played Pomp and Circumstance in the background. Born at just 31 weeks at 4 lbs. 3 oz., baby Victoria received specialize...d care in the state-of-the-art Level III NICU, which opened its doors the same day as her birth. The new 12,000-square-foot unit is twice the size of the hospital’s previous NICU and features 20 all private rooms, allowing parents to stay close to their newborns. As the first infant to be cared for in the new facility, it was a celebration for all staff and physicians as she was discharged from the unit. See more
