Palm Springs is a home for so many extraordinary things and hosting fine Art experiences is no exception!... If you know me or follow my page then you know how much I love #art and @_desertx definitely did not disappoint this year Desert X is a large-scale outdoor art installation throughout our beautiful valley. It runs from March 12-May 16 and if you are an #artlover yourself then you need to put this event on your list! We visited Never Forget’ installation by Nicholas Galanin which immediately will remind you of the letterforms of Hollywood sign, reminding us the history of the indigenous Cahuilla people’s claim to the area. Our next destination was ‘The Wishing Well’ by Serge Attukwei Clottey which represents the water scarcity of both Palm Springs area and the artist’s home Ghana. Here, the artist has used yellow plastic Kufuor gallons, a water-toting vessel that’s a symbol of that scarcity (and one of colonialism, as they were introduced by Europeans), to create a yellow brick road of sorts. First off, hi it’s me again I remember not long ago lot of people asking me (almost in disbelief) why on Earth would I drive all the way out to Redlands to show houses! Hi, it’s me with my I know what you thinking ...but despite of my obsession with art I also love architecture! I mean how can I not? I grew up in Europe admiring the gorgeous castles around me, wishing I was living in one of them (ok maybe I am sharing too much)!? Every geographical area has it own distinguished architectural style that dominates. On our most recent trip to Florida I couldn’t help it but fall in love with the old churches, libraries and governmen...t buildings. When I saw this church, well actually a cathedral it took me eight back to Europe and felt an unbelievable energy! After 100 photos, and couple of selfies (again sharing too much lol) I found out it was the St. James Cathedral It looked like a blend between Gothic and Renaissance architecture so I did some digging and of course I was wrong lol Well, I wasn’t completely wrong but here is what I found. This breathtaking beauty is built in a Romanesque Revival style and the way that’s different from the Gothic Revival Architectural style that the Romanesque buildings used rounded arches while the Gothic structures fever pointed arches so there!
