Cotton candy is undeniably a #CAStateFair staple. Once a very expensive and labor-intensive treat, it wasn't until 1897 when Dentist William Morrison and confectioner John C. Wharton invented machine-spun cotton candy that could be enjoyed by a wider audience. It was showcased as Fairy Floss during the 1904 World's Fair and fairgoers loved it so much, they bought over 68,000 boxes for 25 a box! Happy #NationalCottonCandyDay! Harness racing is back at Cal Expo. While these 1930s #CalExpo harness racing photos shows a full house, due to COVID-19 regulations, a live audience is not allowed right now. We hope in the future we will be allowed to let spectators back in. Visit Cal Expo Sports & Wagering this week from Friday through Sunday, doors open at 9:50 am. Live harness racing starts at 4:55 pm.
