We would like to thank the generous inmates who took the effort and used some of their time to create gifts for the children who were visiting on Christmas Day 2012. Also we would like to thank Inmate Family Council for the Book Giveaway.
MARSY’S LAW UPDATE: Oral argument set 1/8/13 @ 9:00 a.m. in San Francisco, CA! Exactly what is Marcy's Law? Please see below:... On Nov. 4, 2008, CA voters were apparently swayed by emotion into passing Prop 9, the Victims’ Bill of Rights Act. While the proposition’s title is admittedly appealing and evokes understandable sympathy for the silent and defenseless, The Act’s actual language raises serious constitutional questions. CA. Penal Code 3041.5, The Act simplistically treats ALL lifers equally, regardless of the individual facts or any extenuating circumstances. Additionally, the focus on Life Parole Hearings belies available research and leaves the misimpression as to the proportion and danger of the Lifers as parolees. Nevertheless, despite grave concerns, effective Nov. 5, 2008, CA. Penal Code section 3041.5 is amended, increasing the parole-denial periods to which life prisoners could be subjected.
